BIO-BASED BINDERS FOR INSULATION AND NON-WOVEN MATS

An aqueous binder composition is provided that includes a carbohydrate and a crosslinking agent. In exemplary embodiments, the carbohydrate-based binder composition may also include a catalyst, a coupling agent, a process aid, a crosslinking density enhancer, an extender, a moisture resistant agent, a dedusting oil, a colorant, a corrosion inhibitor, a surfactant, a pH adjuster, and combinations thereof. The carbohydrate may be natural in origin and derived from renewable resources. Additionally, the carbohydrate polymer may have a dextrose equivalent (DE) number from 2 to 20. In at least one exemplary embodiment, the carbohydrate is a water-soluble polysaccharide such as dextrin or maltodextrin and the crosslinking agent is citric acid. Advantageously, the carbohydrates have a low viscosity and cure at moderate temperatures. The environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free binder may be used in the formation of insulation materials and non-woven chopped strand mats. A method of making fibrous insulation products is also provided.

A prepolymer is prepared by subjecting a compound of Formula (I) and a vinyl-containing compound to a prepolymerization reaction, and a resin composition includes the prepolymer. The vinyl-containing compound includes bis(vinylphenyl) ethane, divinylbenzene, modification of divinylbenzene or a combination thereof. A ratio in part by weight of the compound of Formula (I) to the vinyl-containing compound in the prepolymerization reaction is 8:2 to 6:4. The resin composition includes the prepolymer and an additive, and an article made from the resin composition may include a resin film, a prepreg, a laminate or a printed circuit board.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING A POLYMER-PEROVSKITE HYBRID

The disclosure is directed at a method and system for generating a polymer-perovskite hybrid (PPH). The PPH can then be used in the manufacture of a final product, such as a solar cell or photon detectors. The PPH is generated by the mixing of a precursor solution including a Lewis acid chemical component and a cation component with a polymer. The mixture is then synthesized to generate the PPH.

Water-enriching and water depleting compositions and methods

Compositions are disclosed for dewatering mixtures of petroleum and water. The compositions comprise one or more of the following: an unreacted polysaccharide component; and one or both of a polysaccharide component reacted with a hydrophilic component and a polysaccharide component reacted with a hydrophobic component. The compositions may also include viscosifying agents or stabilizers to stabilize the compositions against separation, for example, prior to use. In particularly preferred embodiments the invention is drawn to compositions for breaking an emulsion; such compositions comprising a carbohydrate component containing a cationic starch joined to a hydrophobic moiety, providing the carbohydrate component oil solubility. The composition may optionally comprise one or more additional demulsifier selected from, without limitation, salts (such as a polyaluminum chloride, an aluminum chlorohydrate, an alum, etc.), metal salts (such as iron and zinc salts), dithiocarbamate, tannin, and organic demulsifiers such as poly-DADMAC and similar compounds.
