Bimodal polyethylene copolymers

Ethylene-based polymers are characterized by a density from 0.92 to 0.955 g/cm.sup.3, a HLMI of less than 35 g/10 min, and a ratio of a number of short chain branches (SCBs) per 1000 total carbon atoms at Mz to a number of SCBs per 1000 total carbon atoms at Mn in a range from 11.5 to 22. These polymers can have a higher molecular weight (HMW) component and a lower molecular weight (LMW) component, in which a ratio of a number of SCBs per 1000 total carbon atoms at Mn of the HMW component to a number of SCBs per 1000 total carbon atoms at Mn of the LMW component is in a range from 10.5 to 22. These ethylene polymers can be produced using a dual catalyst system containing an unbridged metallocene compound with an indenyl group having at least one halogen-substituted hydrocarbyl substituent with at least two halogen atoms, and a single atom bridged metallocene compound with a fluorenyl group and a cyclopentadienyl group.

POLYETHYLENE-BASED COMPOSITIONS AND FILMS AND ARTICLES COMPRISING THE SAME

The present invention provides polyethylene-based compositions suitable for packaging applications, films, and articles. In one aspect, a polyethylene-based composition suitable for packaging applications comprises (a) at least 97% by weight, based on the total weight of the polyethylene-based composition, of a polyethylene composition comprising: (i) from 25 to 37 percent by weight of a first polyethylene fraction having a density in the range of 0.935 to 0.947 g/cm.sup.3 and a melt index (I.sub.2) of less than 0.1 g/10 minutes; and (ii) from 63 to 75 percent by weight of a second polyethylene fraction; and (b) 90 to 540 ppm, based on the total weight of the polyethylene-based composition of a calcium salt of 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid; wherein the polyethylene composition has less than 0.10 branches per 1,000 carbon atoms when measured using .sup.13C NMR, wherein the density of the polyethylene-based composition N is at least 0.965 g/cm.sup.3, and wherein the melt index (I.sub.2) of the polyethylene-based composition is 0.5 to 10 g/10 minutes.

SILICON- AND ZINC-CONTAINING COUPLING AGENT FOR CELLULOSIC MATERIAL-POLYMER COMPOSITES

A coupling agent formulation for cellulosic material-polymer composites is provided. The formulation includes a) at least one organic peroxide; and b) at least one of i) at least one zinc-containing reagent; and/or ii) at least one silicon-containing reagent. The coupling agent formulations produce polymer matrix cellulosic material composites with improved strength and aging characteristics. The improved strength may be related to physical properties such as improved stiffness, toughness or tensile strength. A masterbatch utilizing the coupling agent formulation is provided, as well as a method making the masterbatch.

The polyethylene polymer has a narrow molecular weight distribution. Polymer articles made in accordance with the present disclosure have enhanced strength properties. In one embodiment, the polymer composition is used to form a porous membrane for use as a separator in electronic devices.

The polyethylene compositions are suitable for compression molding or injection molding applications and are useful, for example, in the manufacture of caps and closures for bottles, and for example, in bottles containing non-pressurized liquids.
