ENHANCING ASPHALT'S PROPERTIES WITH A BIO-BASED POLYMER MODIFIED LIQUID ASPHALT CEMENT

The present application is directed to a composition that includes a polymer comprising two or more units of monomer A, with monomer A being a radically polymerizable plant oil, animal oil, synthetic triglyceride, or mixture thereof and an epoxidized vegetable oil, an epoxidized fatty acid, or an epoxidized fatty ester. The present application is also directed to further compositions, methods of producing a liquid cement composition, and methods of paving.

RECYCLED ASPHALT CONCRETE WITH MINIMIZED AMOUNT OF FLAT AND ELONGATED PARTICLES, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR
20170226015 · 2017-08-10 · ·

The present invention relates to recycled asphalt concrete and a manufacturing method therefor and, more specifically, to recycled and regenerated asphalt concrete and a manufacturing method therefor, which minimizes the amount of flat and elongated particles included in aggregates used as materials for asphalt concrete, thereby increasing the quality of the asphalt concrete to first grade (the amount of the flat and elongated particles is less than 10%) and increasing the durability of the asphalt concrete.

Blown corn stillage oil

Blown corn stillage oils and methods for making blown corn stillage oils are disclosed. In one aspect the corn stillage oils are stripped to reduce the acid value of the resulting blown, stripped corn stillage oil. The method includes heating a corn stillage oil to a temperature of at least 90° C., and passing air through the heated oil to produce a blown corn stillage oil having a viscosity of at least 50 cSt at 40° C. In one aspect, the blown corn stillage oil is stripped to reduce the acid value of the blown, stripped corn stillage oil to 5 mg KOH/gram or less.

ANTI-AGING AGENTS FOR ASPHALT BINDERS

An asphalt mixture comprising an asphalt binder, wherein the asphalt binder comprises at least one of a virgin asphalt binder, a reclaimed asphalt binder material comprising asphalt pavement (RAP), or a reclaimed asphalt binder material comprising asphalt shingles (RAS) and an anti-aging agent having a hydroxyl value of greater than about 25 mg KOH/g.

LECITHIN DRYING USING FATTY ACIDS
20170218249 · 2017-08-03 ·

Aspects of the present invention provide methods of drying lecithin in a batch reaction, comprising the steps of obtaining lecithin-containing material (derived from a crude refining stream) comprising 15-50% water, 10-30% acetone insoluble matter, and 10-20% free fatty acid; adding a fatty acid source (also derived from a crude refining stream) to the lecithin-containing material composition to obtain a lecithin/fatty acid reaction mixture; and blowing dry gas through the gum/fatty acid reaction miture to obtain a resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend having a water content of less than 2%. The resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend may be used in asphalt or oil field applications.

Recycled hot asphalt mixture production method

Provided is a production method of a recycled hot asphalt mixture obtained by mixing a recycled aggregate, a new aggregate, asphalt, and an additive for recycle, comprising: heating the additive for recycle; adding moisture to the heated additive for recycle and mixing thereof so as to make the additive for recycle be formed; and adding the additive for recycle in a foamed state to the recycled aggregate, the new aggregate, and the asphalt and mixing thereof.

STRAIN TOLERANT RECYCLED ASPHALT PAVEMENT COMPOSITION

A strain tolerant recycled bitumen pavement composition comprising aggregate, recycled bitumen, and a specialized polymer modified bitumen. The specialized polymer modified bitumen may comprise bitumen and polymer, where the polymer comprises a preponderance of butadiene. The amount of recycled bitumen in the composition may be greater than 5% of the composition. Such high levels of recycled bitumen in a pavement composition, while desirable both economically and environmentally, typically produces layers with poor strain tolerance. The strain tolerance of the layer produced with the composition of the present invention, however, may be significantly higher due to the inclusion of the specialized polymer modified bitumen.
