The present disclosure is drawn to a dispersed magenta pigment blend, including a first pigment including Pigment Violet 19 and Pigment Red 122, or Pigment Red 282; and a second pigment including Pigment Red 150. The weight ratio of the first pigment to the second pigment can be from 50:50 to 80:20 by pigment solids content.

A fluorescent dye and quencher mixture for reporting on nucleic acid amplification from a sample includes a fluorescent intercalating dye, a dye sequestering or quenching agent such as hydroxynapthol blue (HNB) or caffeine, and primers, dNTPs, and a nucleic acid polymerizing enzyme or fragment thereof. The presence of the dye in combination with the dye sequestering or quenching agent improves the overall dynamic range of the fluorescent signal as well as shortens the time needed for visualization or image capture of amplified nucleic acid. The fluorescent dye and quencher mixture also enables the detection of nucleic acids in samples having low copy numbers.

The present application relates to novel whitening agents for cellulosic substrates. The whitening agents are comprised of at least two constituents: at least one chromophore constituent and at least one polymeric constituent. Suitable chromophore components generally fluoresce blue, red, violet, or purple color when exposed to light, or they may absorb light to reflect these same shades. The whitening agents are further characterized by the polymeric component comprising at least two repeating glycerol units. This disclosure also relates to laundry care compositions including but not limited to liquid and/or powder laundry detergent formulations and rinse added fabric softening (RAFS) compositions that comprise such whitening agents.

A dichroic dye compound has an excellent alignment property when used in a light absorption anisotropic film, and has excellent solubility. A coloring composition contains the dichroic dye compound having a structure represented by Formula (1). In Formula (1), A and B represent a crosslinkable group, a and b are 0 or 1, and a+b is not less than 1. L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 represent a monovalent substituent, a single bond, or a divalent linking group. Each of Ar.sub.1 to Ar.sub.3 represents an aromatic hydrocarbon group or heterocyclic group. R.sub.1 to R.sub.3 represent a monovalent substituent. k represents an integer of 1 to 4. n1, n2, and n3 represent an integer of 0 to 4. Azo anthrapyridone dye of general formula (III) wherein A, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, B, M and n are as described in the specification, are excellent magenta dyes for dyeing and printing of paper, other cellulose containing materials and textiles materials and, in particular, for the preparation of recording fluids for ink jet printing and for writing utensils.
