Insulation layer-forming composition and use thereof

Described is an insulation layer-forming composition containing a binder that is based on a compound having low-electron multiple carbon bonds and a carbanion-forming compound. The disclosed composition, which has a relatively high expansion rate, makes it possible to apply, in a simple and rapid manner, coatings that have the layer thickness required for the particular fire resistance time, the layer thickness being reduced to a minimum while achieving a great insulating effect. The disclosed composition is particularly suitable for fire protection, especially as a coating for steel components such as pillars, beams and truss members, for increasing the fire resistance time.

THERMAL ISOLATION MATERIAL AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME

The patent application relates generally to a thermal isolation material, more particularly to a thermal isolation material having at least an intumescent layer and a refractory layer. The intumescent and refractory layers are generally stacked on top of one other. The patent application also generally relates to a method of making the thermal isolation material that includes the steps of providing a substrate having opposing first and second sides, applying an intumescent material to the substrate and applying a refractory material to the substrate to form a thermal isolation material, where the one following can be true: (i) the intumescent material is applied on the first side and wherein the refractory material is applied on the second side; (ii) the intumescent material is positioned between the substrate and the refractory material and (ii) the refractory material is positioned between the substrate and the intumescent material.

The present invention is directed to a coated substrate comprising: (a) a surface that has been impacted with an abrasive particle and a dopant such that at least some portion of the surface becomes attached with the dopant; and (b) a film-forming layer on at least a portion of the impacted surface, wherein the film-forming layer has been deposited from a film-forming composition; wherein the surface is impacted substantially simultaneously with the abrasive particle and the dopant; and wherein when the dopant comprises iron phosphate, zinc phosphate, manganese phosphate, cerium oxide, the film-forming composition is not a two-component epoxy clear coat.
