Voided latex particles containing functionalized outer shells
The wet adhesion of a coating composition may be improved through the use of voided latex particles as opacifying agents which contain a hollow interior as well as an outer shell of a polymer containing functional groups such as amino, 1,3-diketo, urea or ureido. Other types of functional groups may be introduced to the outer shell polymer in order to vary other desired characteristics of the coating. The voided latex particles are non-film-forming.

SILICA-BASED MATTING FORMULATIONS AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME
Improved coating formulations containing silica based matting agents in the form of a blend of low pore volume silica particles and high pore volume silica particles are disclosed. The matting formulations are useful in waterborne coating compositions to provide exceptional properties to a coated substrate. Films resulting from the coating formulations containing silica-based matting agents on a substrate unexpectedly provide improved chemical resistance to the surface of the substrate, in particular wood or plastics. Methods of making and using the silica-based matting formulations are also disclosed.

Coating composition for extreme washable coatings comprising self-crosslinkable core-shell particles
A coating composition including: an aqueous dispersion of self-crosslinkable core-shell particles, where the core-shell particles include (1) a polymeric core at least partially encapsulated by (2) a polymeric shell having urethane linkages, keto and/or aldo functional groups, and hydrazide functional groups, where the polymeric core is covalently bonded to at least a portion of the polymeric shell, and an acrylic polymer, where the acrylic polymer is non-reactive with the polymeric core and the polymeric shell. A substrate coated with a coating formed from the coating composition and a method of improving stain resistance of a substrate are also disclosed.
