It is to provide a novel benzamide compound useful as an active ingredient of a herbicide, the benzamide compound exhibiting a definite weed control effect even in a small amount, having low phytotoxicity to crops, and having high safety in environments, and a herbicide. A compound of the present invention is a compound of formula (II) or a salt thereof. In formula (II), Het is a substituted or unsubstituted five-membered heteroaryl group; R.sup.1 is a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkoxy group, or the like; R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl group, or the like; X.sup.1 is an oxygen atom or a sulfonyl group; X.sup.2 is an oxygen atom, a sulfenyl group, or the like; m is 0 or 1, n is 0 or 1, and the sum of m and n is 1 or 2; A is a substituted or unsubstituted C2-4 alkylene group, a substituted or unsubstituted C2-3 alkenylene group, or the like; R.sup.3 is a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl group, or a halogeno group; R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-6 alkyl group, or a halogeno group; and Z is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom.

A method for the control of the growth of ALS-resistant plants is provided, the method comprising applying to the plants and/or their locus a herbicidally effective amount of a combination of (A) metribuzin and (B) one or more sulfonylureas. A composition comprising a combination of (A) metribuzin and (B) one or more sulfonylureas is also provided.

A method for the control of the growth of ALS-resistant plants is provided, the method comprising applying to the plants and/or their locus a herbicidally effective amount of a combination of (A) metribuzin and (B) one or more sulfonylureas. A composition comprising a combination of (A) metribuzin and (B) one or more sulfonylureas is also provided.
