Compositions and methods for differential release of 1-methylcyclopropene

A clathrate of 1-methylcyclopropene with α-cyclodextrin, obtained as a solid particulate product, is modified by comminuting, classifying, or both to obtain a modified particulate. When subjected to identical atmospheric disgorgement conditions of humidity and temperature, identical masses of the modified and unmodified particulates exhibit different rates of 1-methylcyclopropene disgorgement. Specifically, we have found that a smaller mean particle size is inversely related to a greater rate of 1-methylcyclopropene release.

Compound for use in colour change compositions

Novel reaction media for electron donating and electron accepting components in colour-change compositions are described. The compound is of formula (VI); R.sub.1, and R.sub.2 are independently selected from an optionally substituted linear or branched alkyl group, alkenyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group and an alkylene aryl group having from 5 to 22 carbon atoms; X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 are independently selected from —OC(O)—, —CO.sub.2— and O; Y.sub.1, and Y.sub.2 are independently selected from hydrogen, halogen, R.sub.1, —OR.sub.1; y is independently 0 or 1; and suitably the groups R.sub.1X.sub.1— and —X.sub.2R.sub.2 are independently in the ortho or meta position. The compounds are useful in ink compositions, writing implements containing the compound and medical and industrial applications in which temperature sensitive colour change may be required. ##STR00001##

In one aspect of the present disclosure, a tissue marking system is provided that includes a container and an applicator. The applicator is in the container and is removable therefrom. The applicator includes a tip, a reservoir containing sterile tissue marking dye, and a valve. The valve is configured to open and permit sterile tissue marking dye to flow from the reservoir to the tip of the applicator in response to the tip being pressed against a priming surface. In one embodiment, the system includes a substrate that is removable from the container and includes the priming surface. In another embodiment, the container includes a tray having a compartment that receives the applicator. The tray includes a well that includes the priming surface.
