A dispersion includes a carbonaceous nanoparticle, a dispersant including a graft polymer having a poly(alkylene glycol) side chain, and a polar solvent. An article coated with the dispersion and a method of making the dispersion are disclosed.

Universal pigment preparation

A universal pigment preparation including a flocculation-stabilizing medium including (a1) reaction products of di- or polycarboxylic acids or hydroxycarboxylic acids with di- or polyols, and (a2) reaction products of alkylene oxides with alkoxylatable compounds, and at least one pigment. Paints, varnishes, printing inks, coating materials, floor coatings, potting compounds and filling compounds may be made using the universal pigment preparation.

An aqueous, low-VOC/SVOC universal pigment preparation is provided, which contains (A) a pigment component; (B) a water-soluble additive containing at least one polyamine B, which is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylamines, poly-C.sub.2-C.sub.3-alkyleneimines, modified poly-C.sub.2-C.sub.3-alkyleneimines, melamines, modified melamines, poly-(C.sub.2-C.sub.4-alkyleneether) amines, polyetheramine polyols, and modified polyetheramine polyols; (C) an additive based on lecithin and/or an anionic additive based on a phosphoric ester and/or phosphonic ester; and (D) optionally further additives customary for producing an aqueous pigment preparation. The aqueous pigment preparation is suitable for coloring coating materials like paints, varnishes or renders, preferably for point-of-sale tinting (POS) or in in-plant tinting systems.

PROCESS FOR WET ON WET APPLICATION OF A MULTILAYER COATING

A wet on wet process for multilayer coating of a substrate includes applying on the substrate to be coated a surfacer layer of an organic solvent-based surfacer coating composition comprising at least one polyaspartic acid ester, at least one polyisocyanate cross-linking agent with free isocyanate groups, at least one pigment and/or extender and at least one organic solvent. The surfacer layer on coated substrate is flashed off and a top coat layer is applied on the surfacer layer.

Method for manufacturing aqueous black pigment dispersion

A method for manufacturing an aqueous black pigment dispersion, including the steps of subjecting a mixture containing carbon black and an aqueous medium to media-less dispersion and adding a resin having anionic groups and a basic compound after the dispersion, wherein the carbon black has a carboxylic acid group on the surface such that the value produced by dividing the amount of carboxylic acid group present on the surface by BET value is 0.8 to 5.5 (mol/m.sup.2) and the resin having anionic groups is an urethane resin that satisfies (weight average molecular weight/acid value)<1,400 or a styrene acrylic resin that satisfies (weight average molecular weight/acid value)<120.

MULTILAYERED COATING FILM AND COATED ARTICLE

A metallic base coating film 15 is stacked on a colored base coating film 14 provided on a surface of an article to be coated. While the colored base coating film 14 alone is formed on the surface of the article to be coated, a light reflectance at light receiving angles of 15? and 45? is measured to be 2% or below in a wavelength ranging from 450 nm to 700 nm inclusive. On the metallic base coating film 15 alone, the light reflectance measured at the light receiving angle of 15? ranges from 20% to 50% inclusive in the wavelength ranging from 450 nm to 700 nm inclusive, and the light reflectance measured at the light receiving angle of 45? is 2.5% or below in the wavelength ranging from 450 nm to 700 nm inclusive.

Aqueous ink composition for writing instrument

Provided is an aqueous ink composition for a writing instrument with excellent stability of ink flow and the like, in which aggregation of a microcapsule pigment and clogging due to such aggregation are suppressed. The aqueous ink composition for a writing instrument includes a microcapsule pigment which includes inside, at least, a pigment and a medium of a fatty acid polyol ester. A melting point of the fatty acid polyol ester is preferably 40? C. or higher, and is preferably 70? C. or lower.
