Polyvinyl alcohol stabilized acetate ethylene copolymer dispersions as adhesives for creped webs
A crepe process includes applying an adhesive composition to a nonwoven web, drying, and creping the nonwoven web on a creping drum. The improvement includes using an adhesive composition that includes an aqueous copolymer dispersion obtained by emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture including 65 to 94.5% by weight of vinyl acetate, 5 to 30% by weight of ethylene, (meth)acrylamide, and 0.1 to 4% by weight of an N-methylol functional monomer. The N-methylol functional monomer constitutes from 25 to 85% by weight of the combined amounts of acrylamide and N-methylol functional monomer, which combined amounts constitute from 0.5 to 5% by weight of the monomer mixture. The emulsion polymerization is performed in the presence of 1 to 10% by weight of polyvinyl alcohol, based on the total weight of all monomers used for the polymerization. The adhesive composition does not include alkylphenol ethoxylates, phosphate ester surfactants, or sodium laureth sulfate.
ADHESIVE COMPOSITIONS
The disclosure is directed to a method for preparing an adhesive composition, in which an aqueous phase comprising a modified colloidal silica is mixed with an organic phase comprising one or more monomers in the presence of an initiator, wherein conditions are maintained such that polymerisation of the one or more monomers occurs to form an aqueous polymeric dispersion, wherein; (i) the aqueous polymeric dispersion comprises polymer particles with protective colloid on their surface; (ii) the modified colloidal silica comprises colloidal silica particles with at least one surface-bound hydrophilic organosilane moiety and/or comprises colloidal silica particles with at least one additional element on its surface, the element being able formally to adopt a +3 or +4 oxidation state; and (iii) the initiator is at least partially soluble in water.

Polar silane linkers are provided that attach to resins to form silane-functionalized resins. The functionalized resins can be bound to hydroxyl groups on the surface of silica particles to improve the dispersibility of the silica particles in rubber mixtures. Further disclosed are synthetic routes to provide the silane-functionalized resins, as well as various uses and end products that benefit from the unexpected properties of the silane-functionalized resins. Silane-functionalized resins impart remarkable properties on various rubber compositions, such as tires, belts, hoses, brakes, and the like. Automobile tires incorporating the silane-functionalized resins are shown to possess excellent results in balancing the properties of rolling resistance, tire wear, and wet braking performance.

Fire retardant-treated wood products with durable coating protection
A novel method of improving the water and leaching resistances and durability of a fire retardant-treated wood product by using a chemical fire retardant composition in which crosslinking polyvinyl acetate (XPAVc or X-PVAc) is applied as a protective coating on wood over the fire retardant layer. An additional crosslinking polyvinyl acetate coating layer or one or more layers of acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, lacquer, polyester, polyurethane, silicone coatings, vinyl ester, or the like may further cover the cured crosslinking polyvinyl acetate primer and then dried or cured.
