INCREASED SATURATION OF ICE MELTING COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USE
Described herein is an ice melting composition that includes at least one solvent, at least one deicing agent, and at least one additive. Possible additives include ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, dispersants and combinations thereof. The composition exhibits an increased saturation point due to the addition of the additives thereby reducing or eliminating precipitation of the deicing agent at low temperatures. Also described herein are methods of melting ice or preventing ice from forming on a surface. The methods include applying the ice melting composition to the surface either before or after ice forms.
Ice melt apparatus
Provided is an ice melt device comprising ice melt product and a casing having one or more compartments containing the melt product. The casing is configured to provide access to the ice melt product by external ice and/or moisture. The casing can be elongate and take the form of an ice melt strip. The ice melt device can be applied in an ice formation area before ice formation as an ice formation prevention strategy and/or the ice melt device be applied directly on ice in the ice formation area as an ice removal strategy.
Power generation
The present invention pertains to systems, methods, and compositions for liquid phase change, including for active cloud point, e.g., critical solution temperature, adjustment and heating or cooling, e.g., refrigeration, cycles. In some embodiments heat is absorbed, released or both due to phase changes in a liquid system. Advantageously, the phase changes may be controlled by controlling the ingredients or amounts of certain components of the liquid system. Advantages may include lower capital expenditures, lower operating expenses, or both for a diverse and wide range of heating and cooling applications. Such applications include, for example, cooling of data centers, cooled transportation of goods, refrigeration, heat pumps, extractions, ocean thermal energy conversion, and de-icing of roads to name just a few.
LIQUID DE-ICING BRINE SUSPENSION
Embodiments of the present invention include de-icing compositions, along with the manufacture of and use of the de-icing compositions. The de-icing compositions achieve a higher melting capacity and melt ice for longer times than conventional de-icing solutions. The de-icing compositions include suspensions of salt instead of solutions. These de-icing suspensions can be applied to ice using liquid application systems. Embodiments include a de-icing composition. The de-icing composition is a suspension. The de-icing composition includes a solvent, which includes water. The de-icing composition may also include a salt component in a total concentration greater than the solubility of the salt component in water at a temperature in a range from 0 F. to 40 F. A portion of the salt component may not be dissolved in the solvent. The undissolved portion of the salt component may include particles with an effective diameter less than 500 m. The de-icing composition may further include a suspending agent.
Inhibited aqueous deicing composition
Disclosed is an aqueous deicing and/or anti-icing composition, and the use thereof on areas in need of deicing and/or anti-icing, exhibiting substantially improved corrosion inhibition, conductivity inhibition and/or hydrogen embrittlement inhibition. Said composition comprises 40-60% by weight of at least one alkali metal carboxylate, 0.1-0.5% by weight of benzoic acid and/or at least one alkali metal benzoate, 0.05-0.5% by weight of at least one alkali metal phosphate, 0.005-0.05% by weight of at least one alkali metal metasilicate, and 0.01-0.15% by weight of succinic acid and/or at least one alkali metal succinate. Balance to 100% by weight is water and said composition is pH adjusted to pH 9-12 by addition of at least one alkali metal hydroxide and/or carbonate. Disclosed is also a method of obtaining corrosion inhibition, conductivity inhibition and/or hydrogen embrittlement inhibition by addition of 0.01-0.15% by weight of succinic acid and/or at least one alkali metal succinate to an aqueous deicing and/or anti-icing composition.
Motor vehicle window deicing fluid, deicing process and process for conveying the deicing fluid
The invention relates to a motor vehicle deicing fluid comprising: at least one alkali metal salt, the weight percentage of all of the at least one alkali metal salt, in the fluid, being between 0.0001% and 50%, and at least water, the weight percentage of water in the fluid being between 0.0001% and 99.9999%.
High throughput brine generating system
A brine generation system includes a tank having an upper opening configured for receiving salt crystals to fill the tank. A divider separates a tank volume into an upper portion adapted for holding salt crystals a lower portion adapted for holding a brine solution. The divider is adapted to resist movement of salt crystals into the lower portion but is permeable to allow the brine solution to fall into the lower portion. A fluid conduit disposed within the upper portion includes at least one water jet for injecting water in a direction towards the salt crystals. The tank further includes an outlet positioned in the lower portion of the tank for withdrawing brine.
