Highly tunable magnetic liquid crystals
In various embodiments magnetically actuated liquid crystals are provided as well as method of manufacturing such, methods of using the liquid crystals and devices incorporating the liquid crystals. In one non-limiting embodiment the liquid crystals comprise Fe.sub.3O.sub.4 nanorods where the nanorods are coated with a silica coating.
Liquid Crystal Materials and Formulations
Photopolymerizable materials and in particular holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal materials and processes for fabricating holographic waveguide devices from such materials are provided. Materials and formulations of photopolymerizable materials incorporate a mixture of LCs and monomer (and other components including: photoinitiator dye, coinitiators, surfactant), which under holographic exposure undergo phase separation to provide a grating in which at least one of the LCs and at least one of the monomers forms a first HPDLC morphology that provides a P polarization response and at least one of the LCs and at least one of the monomers forms a second HPDLC morphology that provides a S polarization response.
Low Haze Liquid Crystal Materials
Photopolymerizable materials and in particular holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal materials and processes for fabricating holographic waveguide devices from such materials are provided. Materials and formulations of photopolymerizable materials are sufficiently low haze to allow for the omission of adhesives from within the cell of the holographic waveguide devices. The photopolymerizable materials are used in association with methods of manufacturing holographic waveguides such that photopolymerizable materials may be used as an adhesive material.
LIQUID CRYSTALLINE RESIN COMPOSITION AND BALL BEARING SLIDING PARTS MANUFACTURED USING THE SAME
A liquid crystalline resin composition is disclosed. The liquid crystalline resin composition includes a liquid crystalline resin, a fine particulate filler including barium sulfate (BaSO.sub.4), and a nanofiller including carbon nanotubes (CNT), wherein a content of the nanofiller based on the total weight of the fine particulate filler and the nanofiller is about 6 wt % to about 30 wt %.
Compact camera module
A compact camera module that contains a generally planar base on which is mounted a lens barrel is provided. The base, barrel, or both are molded from a polymer composition that includes a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer and a plurality of mineral fibers (also known as whisker). The mineral fibers have a median width of from about 1 to about 35 micrometers and constitute from about 5 wt % to about 60 wt. % of the polymer composition.
Patterned Liquid Crystal Alignment Using Ink-Jet Printed Nanoparticles and Use Thereof to Produce Patterned, Electro-Optically Addressable Devices; Ink-Jet Printable Compositions
Ink-jet printable compositions including nanoparticles capped with a protective layer of hydrocarbon chains and a single solvent exhibiting a single evaporation rate and having a specifically defined viscosity and surface tension that result in uniform and printable alignment layers for liquid crystal materials. Patterned liquid crystal-containing cells are also disclosed including one or more layers including the same or different nanoparticles capped with a protective layer of hydrocarbon chains printed on a surface of a substrate or even another nanoparticle-containing layer. Methods for producing the cells are also disclosed, including the step of printing a pattern on one or more portions of a cell surface utilizing a composition comprising the capped nanoparticles. Devices including the cells are also disclosed.
