Upgrading heavy oils by selective oxidation

A heavy petroleum oil feed is upgraded by having its amenability to cracking improved by subjecting the oil to selective partial oxidation with a catalytic oxidation system to partially oxidize aromatic ring systems in the heavy oil. The partially oxidized oil can then be cracked in the conventional manner but at lower severities to lower molecular weight cracking products. The cracking following the partial oxidation step may be thermal in nature as by thermal cracking, delayed, contact or fluid coking or fluid catalytic cracking or hydrogenative as in hydrocracking.

Systems and processes for producing olefins from crude oil

A process for producing olefins from the hydrocarbon feed includes introducing the hydrocarbon feed into a Solvent Deasphalting Unit (SDA) to remove asphaltene from the hydrocarbon feed producing a deasphalted oil stream, wherein the SDA comprises a solvent that reacts with the hydrocarbon feed, and the deasphalted oil stream comprises from 0.01 weight percent (wt. %) to 18 wt. % asphaltenes; introducing the deasphalted oil stream into a steam catalytic cracking system; steam catalytically cracking the deasphalted oil stream in the steam catalytic cracking system in the presence of steam and a nano zeolite cracking catalyst to produce a steam catalytic cracking effluent; and separating the olefins from the steam catalytic cracking effluent.

Circular economy for plastic waste to polypropylene via oil refinery with filtering and metal oxide treatment of pyrolysis oil

Provided in one embodiment is a continuous process for converting waste plastic comprising polyethylene and/or polypropylene into recycle for polypropylene polymerization. The process comprises selecting waste plastics containing polyethylene, polypropylene, or a mixture thereof, and passing the waste plastics through a pyrolysis reactor to thermally crack at least a portion of the polyolefin waste and produce a pyrolyzed effluent. The pyrolyzed effluent is separated into offgas, a pyrolysis oil comprising a naphtha, diesel and heavy fractions, and char. The pyrolysis oil, or at least a fraction, is passed to a filtration/metal oxide treatment, with the treated product passed to a refinery FCC unit. A liquid petroleum gas C.sub.3 olefin/paraffin mixture fraction is recovered from the FCC unit, as well as a C.sub.4 olefin/paraffin mixture fraction. The C.sub.3 olefin fraction can be passed to a propylene polymerization reactor, and the C.sub.3 paraffin passed to a dehydrogenation unit to produce propylene for further polymerization.

Process for removal of sulfur and other impurities from olefinic liquefied petroleum gas

Organic sulfur compounds which are generally present in the crude oil undergoes various transformations while processing the crude oil in the secondary processing units such as fluid catalytic cracker, hydrocracker, delayed coker, visbreaker, etc. The sulfur present in the feed which enters into these secondary processing units are distributed into various products coming out of the units. Sulfur compounds which are present in the various product fractions are removed to meet the desired specifications before routing to the final product pool. Conventionally, sulfur present in the LPG has been removed by amine treatment followed by caustic and water wash. The present invention relates to a process for removal of sulfur and other impurities from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) comprising olefins through reactive desulfurization route. The present invention is an eco-friendly process as it minimizes or eliminates the use of caustic which is conventionally used to remove the sulfur from LPG.
