APPARATUS AND PROCESS FOR UPGRADING HEAVY HYDROCARBONS

Systems and methods are provided for partial upgrading of heavy hydrocarbon feeds to meet transport specifications, such as pipeline transport specifications. The systems and methods can allow for one or more types of improvement in heavy hydrocarbon processing prior to transport. In some aspects, the systems and methods can produce a partially upgraded heavy hydrocarbon product that satisfies one or more transport specifications while incorporating an increased amount of vacuum gas oil and a reduced amount of pitch into the partially upgraded heavy hydrocarbon product. In other aspects, the systems and methods can allow for increased incorporation of hydrocarbons into the fraction upgraded for transport, thereby reducing or minimizing the amount of hydrocarbons requiring an alternative method of disposal or transport. In still other aspects, the systems and methods can allow for reduced incorporation of external streams into the final product for transport while still satisfying one or more target properties.

Hydrofining catalyst, its preparation and application thereof

Disclosed is a hydrofining catalyst comprising: an inorganic refractory component comprising a first hydrodesulfurization catalytically active component in a mixture with at least one oxide selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, magnesia, calcium oxide, zirconia and titania; a second hydrodesulfurization catalytically active component; and an organic component comprising a carboxylic acid and optionally an alcohol. The hydrofining catalyst of the present application shows improved performance in the hydrofining of distillate oils. Also disclosed are a hydrofining catalyst system comprising the hydrofining catalyst, a method for preparing the catalyst and catalyst system, and a process for the hydrofining of distillate oils using the catalyst or catalyst system.

LOW SULPHUR FUEL BLEND OF HYDROCARBON CONTAINING FUELS AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SUCH BLEND

The invention relates to a low sulphur fuel blend of a first fuel blend component containing renewable hydrocarbon component(-s) and a second fuel blend component containing hydrocarbon to form at least part of a final low sulphur fuel blend having a sulphur content of less than 0.5 wt. %, where the first fuel blend component is characterised by having the characteristics (δ.sub.d1, δ.sub.p1, δ.sub.h1)=(17-20, 6-10, 6-10); where the first fuel blend component comprises a fuel substance comprising 70% by weight of compounds having a boiling point above 220° C. and is further characterized by having the characteristics (δ.sub.d, δ.sub.p, δ.sub.h)=(17-20, 6-15,6-12) and a linker substance comprising one or more sulphur containing solvents characterised by having the characteristics (δ.sub.d3, δ.sub.p3, δ.sub.h3)=(17-20, 3-6, 4-6); where the fuel substance is present in the first fuel blend component in a relative amount of 90-99.5 wt. %, and the linker substance is present in the first fuel blend component in a relative amount of 0.5 to 10 wt. %; where the second fuel blend component is characterised by having the characteristics (δ.sub.d2, δ.sub.p2, δ.sub.h2) -(17-20, 3-5, 4-7) and selected from the group of ultra low sulfur fuel oils (ULSFO) such as RMG 180, low sulphur fuel oil, marine gas oil, marine diesel oil, vacuum gas oil, and combinations thereof, where the first fuel blend component is present in the final low sulphur fuel blend in a relative amount of up to 80 wt. %.

The present disclosure relates to a method that includes pyrolyzing a biomass to produce a pyrolysis oil and upgrading the pyrolysis oil to yield a first upgraded pyrolysis oil, where the pyrolysis oil is in at least one of a liquid phase and/or a vapor phase, the pyrolyzing is performed in a pyrolysis reactor at a first temperature between 400° C. and 600° C., the biomass has a residence time of less than five seconds in the pyrolysis reactor, the upgrading is performed in a fluidized bed reactor, and the upgrading is catalyzed using a zeolite.

A process for treating a hydrocarbon stream to remove polynuclear aromatic (PNA) and heavy polynuclear aromatic (HPNA) compounds includes contacting the hydrocarbon stream with an adsorbent in an adsorption unit to adsorb the PNA and HPNA compounds onto the adsorbent to produce a treated hydrocarbon stream and regenerating the adsorbent. Regenerating the adsorbent may include contacting the adsorbent with a solvent comprising a disulfide oil, such as a disulfide oil effluent from a mercaptan oxidation unit. The solvent comprising the disulfide oil desorbs the PNA and HPNA compounds from the adsorbent into the solvent to produce a desorption effluent. The treated hydrocarbon stream can be passed to a hydrocracking unit that hydrocracks the treated hydrocarbon stream to produce a hydrocracker effluent that includes greater value petrochemical products or intermediates.
