Agglomeration of ultra-fine coal particles
A method of preparing agglomerates of ultra-fine coal particles includes mixing a film forming agglomeration aid (FFAA) with a quantity of ultra-fine coal particles to form ultra-fine coal particles coated with the FFAA. The FFAA has a lower surface energy relative to a surface of the ultra-fine coal particles. The FFAA is mixed with the ultra-fine coal particles in an amount less than 3% by weight of the ultra-fine coal particles on a dry basis. Agglomerates of the ultra-fine coal particles coated with the film forming agglomeration aid are formed using vibration, pelleting, and/or briquetting. The agglomerates have a size of at least 2 mm. The ultra-fine coal particles have a particle size less than 100 m. The agglomerate has a tumbler test friability less than 3%. The drop shatter friability is also less than 3%.
Dust control formulations
This disclosure describes formulations and methods for dust control, for example, coal topping, a term which refers to the application of liquid products to the top of coal loads, such as those in open topped coal hopper railcars as commonly used today to transport coal. Disclosed herein are wax-based emulsion formulations that accomplish dust control during industrial operations in which dust handling is required.

METHOD FOR IMPROVING TRANSPORT AND HANDLING OF DUST EMITTING SOLIDS MATERIALS
Methods are provided for controlling fugitive dust emissions from a variety of granular or particulate solids materials such as coal dust. A first treatment of cationic polymer or cationic copolymer is applied to the dust. The dust is then loaded onto an open bed rail car or the like. A topping treatment comprising an aqueous dilute polymer solution or polymer latex emulsion or dispersion is applied to the exposed coal layer in the rail car.

Methods and compositions for treating coal are provided. A nitroxyl radical compound is added to the coal in order to inhibit coal autooxidation. Additionally, the nitroxyl radical compound can be conjointly used with conventional dust control agents, in order to suppress fugitive coal dust dissemination. In those cases in which foamed treatment is desired to treat coal dust, the nitroxyl radical compound can be conjointly used in the foamable compositions, along with a variety of foam building surfactants such as the amphoteric, nonionic and anionic surfactants.

Method for producing modified coal, and modified coal
A method for producing modified coal using coal of a low grade comprising: adding water for preventing any dust generation to the dewatered coal; an addition amount of the water is adjusted for a water content rate of the water-added coal to be 6% by mass or more to 16% by mass or less; agglomerating the water-added coal; slowly oxidizing the agglomerated coal; and crushing the oxidized coal.
