Chemical process for sulfur reduction of hydrocarbons

Treatment of hydrocarbon streams, and in one non-limiting embodiment refinery distillates, with reducing agents, such as borohydride and salts thereof, alone or together with at least one co-solvent results in reduction of the sulfur compounds such as disulfides, mercaptans, thiophenes, and thioethers that are present to give easily removed sulfides. In one non-limiting embodiment, the treatment converts the original sulfur compounds into hydrogen sulfide or low molecular weight mercaptans that can be extracted from the distillate with caustic solutions, hydrogen sulfide or mercaptan scavengers, solid absorbents such as clay or activated carbon or liquid absorbents such as amine-aldehyde condensates and/or aqueous aldehydes.

PROCESS FOR HYDROGEN SULFIDE SCRUBBING AND METHOD FOR FERRIC ION REGENERATION
20210009913 · 2021-01-14 ·

A process and method for removing hydrogen sulfide from a gas and regenerating ferric ions consumed in the hydrogen sulfide scrubbing process at low pH. A two-scrubber regenerative chemical scrubbing system for removing hydrogen sulfide from a gas that provides an economical system for removing hydrogen sulfide from a gas at low pH without the need for chelating agents. An oxide of manganese is used as a catalyst to enhance the regeneration of ferric ions in an aqueous solution under acidic conditions in the presence of oxygen. The process may further include contacting the aqueous solution with a second gas comprising air to replenish the dissolved oxygen in the aqueous solution. The regenerated solution comprising ferric ions can be reused to treat additional hydrogen sulfide containing gases.

Process and apparatus for recovering light hydrocarbons by sponge absorption

A gas stream comprising LPG and naphtha hydrocarbons is absorbed with a sponge absorbent to recover LPG and naphtha hydrocarbons. The gas stream may comprise stripper off gas and/or PSA tail gas. An absorbent stream may be a stripped stream. The stripper off gas stream and the stripped stream may be obtained from a stripper that is downstream of a hydroprocessing unit.

Method for separating C5-C8 hydrocarbons and acid gases from a fluid stream
10864477 · 2020-12-15 · ·

A process for removing C.sub.5-C.sub.8-hydrocarbons and acid gases from a fluid stream is described, where a) the fluid stream is brought into contact with an absorption medium comprising at least one amine in an absorption zone to obtain a deacidified fluid stream and an acid-gases-laden absorption medium, b) the laden absorption medium is heated in a first heat exchanger and decompressed into a decompression zone to a pressure of from 5 to 10 bar to obtain a C.sub.5-C.sub.8-hydrocarbons-comprising gas phase and a hydrocarbon-depleted laden absorption medium, c) the hydrocarbon-depleted laden absorption medium is heated in an optional second heat exchanger and passed into a stripper in which at a pressure of 1 to 2.5 bar the acid gases are at least partially liberated by supplying heat to obtain a regenerated absorption medium and an acid-gas-comprising stream, and d) the regenerated absorption medium is recycled into the absorption zone.

Process for beneficiating and cleaning biomass

A process for cleaning and beneficiating biomass is described which may allow removal of entrained salts and light volatiles from biomass materials. The process may also minimize energy use through capturing steam and flue gases for re-use. The process may generally comprise the following steps: prewashing and/or preheating a biomass, pressurizing the biomass in a steam explosion vessel, rapidly depressurizing the steam explosion vessel, releasing the steam from the steam explosion vessel entrained with fine lignin-enriched particles into a cyclone-type gas expansion vessel, routing the steam from the gas expansion vessel to the input hopper, subjecting the biomass to a second washing step, mechanically removing a portion of the water from the biomass, and evaporatively heating the biomass.
