LUBRICANT FORMULATION COMPRISING FRICTION MODIFIER ADDITIVE

The invention provides a lubricant formulation comprising: (a) a base oil selected from API Group I to V oils and mixtures thereof; (b) 0.01 to 10 wt % on the basis of the total weight of the lubricant formulation of a friction modifier additive; and (c) other lubricant formulation additives. The friction modifier additive has a hydroxyl value in the range from 10 to 300 mg KOH/g and is the reaction product of reactants comprising: i) a dimer fatty acid; ii) a polyol; iii) optionally, a C2 to C12 dicarboxylic acid or diol; and iv) optionally, a C1 to C10 mono-carboxylic acid or mono-alcohol. The invention also provides a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine comprising a crankcase and a wet clutch and the use of a friction modifier additive.

Metal working fluid

A metal working fluid having increased resistance to bacterial growth. The metal working fluid includes a cross-linked polymeric ester emulsifier; and an amine represented by the formula (H.sub.2N).sub.a-Q-(NH.sub.2).sub.b, where a and b are each integers, and Q is at least one carbon atom. Q may also be represented by XYZ, where a+b2; X is a cyclic ring system including 3 to 24 carbon atoms; and Y and Z are groups that include at least one carbon atom directly attached to the cyclic ring system. The metal working fluid may also include a biocide, and may also include an amide that is formed by reacting the amine with a carboxylic acid.

Anti-Wear Composition for Lubricants

Certain citric esters and amides, and certain mixtures thereof, e.g., mixtures comprising citrate oligomers, exhibit excellent anti-wear activity in lubricants. Many of these compounds or mixtures of compounds also exhibit a high degree of anti-wear synergy in combination with zinc dihydrocarbyldithiophosphates. The compounds of the invention are thus valuable tools that can allow one to reduce the amounts of zinc, and phosphates, that are used in the lubricant without sacrificing anti-wear performance.

NOVEL HYPERBRANCHED POLYESTERS AND THEIR USE AS WAX INHIBITOR, AS POUR POINT DEPRESSANT, AS LUBRICANT OR IN LUBRICATING OILS

The invention relates to a method for the preparation of a hyperbranched polyester mixture obtainable by reacting a hydroxyl group containing carboxylic acid (B) with at least one carboxylic acid group and at least two hydroxyl groups with a diol (C) having a molecular weight of more than 100 g/mol, optionally in the presence of at least one further reactant, wherein the at least one further reactant is a polyol (A) having at least three hydroxyl groups under a reaction condition allowing ester and ether formation; and reacting the mixture resulting from step (a) with a hydrophobic carboxylic acid (D) resulting in the hyperbranched polyester mixture. The invention further relates to said hyperbranched polyester mixture and the use as wax inhibitor, as pour point depressant, as lubricant or in lubricating oils.
