Low Zinc Lubricant Composition

The disclosed technology relates to lubricants for compression ignition internal combustion engines, particularly those demonstrating at least one of improved seals performance, reduced deposit formation, and excellent durability. The present invention provides a low zinc lubricating composition comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) a borated dispersant, and (c) a metal-free organo-phosphorus anti-wear additive, wherein the lubricating composition is substantially free of a metal containing sulfur coupled alkyl phenol compound. Further, the low zinc lubricating composition contains zinc in an amount less than 600 ppm by weight of the composition.

LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION

A lubricant composition contains a lubricant base oil, (A) a detergent containing magnesium, (B) a compound containing boron, and (C) a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate. The amount of component (A) is in the range of 200 to 1200 mass ppm [Mg] based on the mass of the lubricant composition, and the amount of component (C) is in the range of 300 to 1000 mass ppm [P] based on the mass of the lubricant composition. Component (C) includes a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate having a primary alkyl group or a secondary alkyl group; the lubricant composition includes zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate having a secondary alkyl group; the mass ratio of the zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate having a primary alkyl group and the zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate having a secondary alkyl group is from 70:30 to 0:100; and the concentration of [B] is from 100 to 300 mass ppm based on the mass of the lubricant composition.

Provided is a lubricating oil composition having a HTHS viscosity at 150 C. in a range of about 1.7 to about 3.2 mPa s and a low temperature cold cranking viscosity of less than 7,000 mPa s at 20 C., comprising: (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of from 3.5 mm.sup.2/s to 20 mm.sup.2/s and a viscosity index of greater than 120 with a sulfur content of less than 0.03 wt. %, are classified into the API group III, IV, or V base stock category, and have an aromatics content (C.sub.A) of less than 5%; (b) an organomolybdenum compound; (c) a dispersed hydrated alkali metal borate compound; (e) one or more dispersants; (f) one or more calcium-based metal detergents; and (g) optionally, one or more magnesium-based metal detergents.

Also provided is a method for improving wear, high temperature detergency, and thermal stability in an engine comprising operating said engine with said lubricating oil composition.

A fire resistant paper machine oil comprising a blend of oil soluble base and water insoluble base having the formula: 0-100 wt % Oil Soluble PAG (Polyalkylene Glycol); 0-100 wt % Polyol Ester; an anti-wear additive; rust inhibitor; hindered phenolic anti-oxidant; alkylated di phenyl amine anti-oxidant; and, foam inhibitor. A blend of the base oils are the most preferred embodiment, however, a product could be formulated using only one type of base material such as an oil soluble base or a water insoluble base.
