Low-friction fluorinated coatings
Low-friction fluorinated coatings are disclosed herein. A preferred low-friction material contains a low-surface-energy fluoropolymer having a surface energy between about 5 mJ/m.sup.2 to about 50 mJ/m.sup.2, and a hygroscopic material that is covalently connected to the fluoropolymer in a triblock copolymer, such as PEG-PFPE-PEG. The material forms a lubricating surface layer in the presence of humidity. An exemplary copolymer comprises fluoropolymers with average molecular weight from 500 g/mol to 20,000 g/mol, wherein the fluoropolymers are (,)-hydroxyl-terminated and/or (,)-amine-terminated, and wherein the fluoropolymers are present in the triblock structure T-(CH.sub.2CH.sub.2O)CH.sub.2CF.sub.2O(CF.sub.2CF.sub.2O).sub.m(CF.sub.2O).sub.nCF.sub.2CH.sub.2(OCH.sub.2CH.sub.2).sub.p-T where T is a hydroxyl or amine terminal group, p=1 to 50, m=1 to 100, and n=1 to 100. The copolymer also contains isocyanate species and polyol or polyamine chain extenders or crosslinkers possessing a functionality of preferably 3 or greater. These durable, solvent-resistant, and transparent coatings reduce insect debris following impact.
Stimuli-Responsive Micro-Reservoirs for Release of Encapsulants
This invention relates to polymer-based partially-open, hollow reservoirs in the nano-size to micro-size range that encapsulate an additive, which can be released from the reservoirs using specific event stimuli such as reduction-oxidation and voltage change, or at will, using the same stimuli. This invention also relates to method preparing such reservoirs, and for releasing the additive. This invention further relates to matrix that comprises such reservoirs and the method of preparing such matrix. This invention also relates to applications, for example in corrosion inhibition, lubrication, and adhesion, that benefit from using such a controlled release of an additive.
LUBRICANT ADDITIVE AND PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
It is an object of this invention to provide a lubricant additive applicable integrally to all of different types of lubricants for various applications. A lubricant additive adapted to be blended to a lubricating oil, which is characterized by comprising a synthesized base oil of the polyolester type, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 30.0 w/w % to 60.0 w/w %, calcium sulfonate containing calcium carbonate formed in the calcite crystal structure, the content of which to be contained in the lubricant additive is in a range of from 5.0 w/w % to 30.0 w/w %, a poly-alpha-olefin oligomer, an anti-oxidant of the zinc dithiophosphate type, succinimide, an extreme pressure agent of the thiadiazole type and an anti-oxidant of the phenol type, is provided.

Sliding member
Provided is a technique capable of exhibiting high seizure resistance even if a scratch is formed. The sliding member of the present invention is a sliding member including a base layer and a resin coating layer formed on the base layer, wherein the resin coating layer is formed of a polyamide-imide resin as a binder, barium sulfate particles, molybdenum disulfide particles having an average particle diameter which is 1.0 time or more and 2.8 times or less the average particle diameter of the barium sulfate particles, and unavoidable impurities.
Lubricating oil composition
The invention addresses a problem of providing a lubricating oil composition for gas engines capable of suppressing viscosity increase while reducing a sulfated ash content and excellent in high-temperature detergency and base number retention. The lubricating oil composition is used for gas engines and contains a base oil (A), at least one ash-free additive (B) selected from an ash-free sulfur-based antioxidant (B1) and a hindered amine compound (B2), and a boronated imide-type dispersant (C), and satisfies the following requirements (X1) to (X3): Requirement (X1): the sulfated ash content is 0.2% by mass or less. Requirement (X2): the content of the ash-free additive (B) is 1.2% by mass or less based on the total amount of the lubricating oil composition, provided that in the case where the ash-free additive (B) contains the hindered amine compound (B2), the content of the hindered amine compound (B2) is less than 1.0% by mass based on the total amount of the lubricating oil composition. Requirement (X3): the content of the boron atom derived from the boronated imide-type dispersant (C) is 200 ppm by mass or more based on the total amount of the lubricating oil composition.
