LUBRICATING COMPOSITION WITH ENHANCED FILTERABILITY

A lubricating oil composition that includes a highly paraffinic base oil, a controlled release friction modifier (CRFM) and an effective amount of detergent. The CRFM includes an ionic tetrahedral borate compound comprising a cation and a tetrahedral borate anion which includes a boron atom, the boron atom having two bidentate di-oxo ligands of C.sub.18 tartrimide. The CRFM is a high stabilizer CRFM. The detergent includes a mixed magnesium and calcium detergent system having a calcium to magnesium ratio of less than 2:1.

Provided is a mineral base oil satisfying the following requirements (I) to (III): Requirement (I): a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. is 2 mm.sup.2/s or more and less than 7 mm.sup.2/s; Requirement (II): a viscosity index is 100 or more; and Requirement (III): a temperature gradient |*| of complex viscosity between two temperature points 10 C. and 25 C. is 60 Pa.Math.s/ C. or less as measured with a rotary rheometer under conditions at an angular velocity of 6.3 rad/s and a strain amount of 0.1 to 100%.

The foregoing mineral base oil can become a lubricating oil composition having desirable low-temperature viscosity characteristics, including low-temperature fuel consumption and low-temperature engine start-up performance, and also having excellent high-temperature piston detergency.

An object of the present invention is to obtain a lubricating oil for machine tools, which has good lubricating properties and abrasion resistance and also exhibits a high flash point and a low pour point. A lubricating oil composition comprises, as a base oil, a base oil which includes an oil containing 20 mass % to 49 mass % of n-paraffin components and 51 mass % to 80 mass % of i-paraffin components at a quantity of 90 mass % or more of the total quantity of the base oil and which has a kinematic viscosity at 40 C. of 1 to 5 mm.sup.2/s. By blending a small quantity of -dithiophosphorylated propionic acid and/or an acidic phosphoric acid ester in this base oil, a lubricating oil composition suitable for use for a main shaft of a machine tool is obtained. The lubricating oil composition for a main shaft of a machine tool has a flash point of 100 C. or more, a pour point of 10 C. or less, and a Shell four-ball wear mark diameter of 0.7 mm or less.

In another embodiment, the particulate composite lubricant for powder metallurgy includes first discrete particles comprising Montan acid ester wax and second discrete particles comprising an organic, metal-free pulverulent lubricant selected from the group consisting of fatty bisamide waxes, fatty monoamide waxes, glycerides, Montan acid ester waxes, paraffin wax, polyolefines, polyamides, polyesters, and mixtures thereof, wherein the particulate composite lubricant comprises at least one fatty amide wax including at least one of a fatty monoamide wax and a fatty bisamide wax.

Dielectric nanolubricant compositions

A dielectric nanolubricant composition is provided. The dielectric nanolubricant composition includes a nano-engineered lubricant additive dispersed in a base. The nano-engineered lubricant additive may include a plurality of solid lubricant nanostructures having an open-ended architecture and an organic, inorganic, and/or polymeric medium intercalated in the nanostructures and/or encapsulate nanostructures. The base may include a grease or oil such as silicone grease or oil, lithium complex grease, lithium grease, calcium sulfonate grease, silica thickened perfluoropolyether (PFPE) grease or PFPE oil, for example. This dielectric nanolubricant composition provides better corrosion and water resistance, high dielectric strength, longer material life, more inert chemistries, better surface protection and asperity penetration, no curing, no staining, and environmentally friendly, compared to current products in the market.

A method for producing a base oil for lubricant oils comprising: a first step of hydrocracking a petroleum slack wax having a content percentage of a heavy matter having 30 or more carbon atoms of 80% by mass or more and a content percentage of an oil of 15% by mass or less so that a crack per mass of the heavy matter is 5 to 30% by mass to obtain a hydrocracked oil comprising the heavy matter and a hydrocracked product thereof; and a second step of obtaining the base oil for lubricant oils from the hydrocracked oil.
