A lubricating oil composition including greater than 50 wt. % of a base oil; a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl acid phosphate and a nitrogen containing compound; and an oil soluble hydrocarbyl borate. A method for reducing gear scuffing in a transmission including a step of lubricating the transmission with the above-mentioned lubricating oil composition and a method of operating a transmission including steps of lubricating said transmission with the lubricating oil composition described above and operating the transmission, are also described.
LUBRICATION OF AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH REDUCED WEAR ON A NEEDLE BEARING
A lubricant composition comprising (a) an oil having a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of 2.2 to 3.7 mm.sup.2/s; at least one borate ester having an alkyl group of 4 to 18 carbon atoms in an amount to provide 25 to 150 parts per million by weight boron to the composition; and (c) at least one phosphorus ester in an amount to provide 150 to 650 parts per million by weight phosphorus to the composition, wherein the kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of the lubricant composition is less than or equal to 4.7 mm.sup.2/s, provides wear resistance to a needle bearing in an automatic transmission.
Low Ash Lubricant and Fuel Additive Comprising Alkoxylated Amine
A lubricating oil detergent composition comprises an overbased calcium sulfonate and a low ash detergent, which low ash detergent is metal free and comprises the reaction product of an acidic organic compound such as an alkylated salicylic acid, a boron compound and an amine component.
LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
A lubricating oil composition which achieves extended anti-shudder durability without causing a decrease in the metal-to-metal friction coefficient, even when the viscosity of the composition is reduced. The lubricating oil composition includes (A) a lubricant base oil, (C) (C-1) a succinimide compound or boronated succinimide compound having a weight-average molecular weight of 4,000 to 7,000, (C-2) a succinimide compound or boronated succinimide compound having a weight-average molecular weight of more than 7,000 to 10,000, and (D) a phosphorus-based extreme pressure agent, the lubricating oil composition does not include zinc dithiophosphate and may optionally include a sulfur-based extreme pressure agent, provided that the content of sulfur-based extreme pressure agent is no more than 0.1 percent by weight of the lubricating oil composition.
OIL ADDITIVE
Disclosed herein is an oil additive and combination oil product comprising an effective amount of the oil additive. The oil additive comprises a bismuth-containing premix, the bismuth-containing premix comprising bismuth trioxide and a carrier, and a boron-containing premix, the boron-containing premix comprising boric acid, a carrier, and an anionic surfactant.

The invention concerns additive compositions obtained by mixing at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds and at least one boronic ester compound that enables the association of these two copolymers to be controlled; a lubricating composition obtained by mixing at least one lubricating base oil, at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds, and at least one boronic ester compound that enables the association of these two copolymers to be controlled; a method for adjusting the viscosity of a lubricating composition obtained by mixing at least one lubricating base oil and at least two thermoassociative and exchangeable compounds; and the use of a boronic ester compound to adjust the viscosity of a lubricating composition.
Borated detergents and their lubricating applications
Disclosed herein is an overbased alkaline earth metal hydrocarbyl-substituted salicylate detergent comprising both carbonate and borate moieties and exhibiting the following characteristics: a basicity index of at least 3.8; a ratio of soap content to mass % boron is greater than 55 mmol/kg; a soap content of at least 330 mmol/kg; a TBN, measured according to ASTM D2896, of at least 220 mg KOH/g; and a mass ratio of borate to carbonate from 0.75 to 6.0, wherein the alkaline earth metal comprises calcium and/or magnesium, and the hydrocarbyl substitution comprises 9 to 30 carbon atoms. Methods of making the boron-containing salicylate detergent, specifically to be package-stable, are also disclosed, as well as package-stable lubricant additive package concentrates and lubricating oil compositions containing same.
BENZAZEPINE COMPOUNDS AS ANTIOXIDANTS FOR LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS

A phosphate complex of a borate ester provides wear- and friction-reducing performance to an engine or driveline device. The complex may be a pyroborate-hydrocarbyl-substituted phosphate adduct. Boric acid may be reacted with a diol to form an ester, then reacting said ester with an ammonium salt of phosphoric acid or a hydrocarbyl-substituted phosphoric acid.
