The present invention provides a refrigerating machine oil containing an ester base oil obtained from pentaerythritol and mixed fatty acids of a fatty acid having 8 carbon atoms and a fatty acid having 9 carbon atoms, wherein a ratio of a weight average molecular weight Mw to a number average molecular weight Mn, Mw/Mn, of the ester base oil is 1.06 to 1.20, and used with a mildly flammable hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant.

The refrigerating machine oil of the invention is characterized by comprising an ester of a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid with a content of a C5-C9 branched fatty acid of 50-100% by mole, and by being used together with a fluoropropene refrigerant and/or trifluoroiodomethane refrigerant.

The controller is also configured to regulate proportions of the liquid lubricant and the gas as a function of at least one operating condition, including at least one of pressure, temperature, and flow rate, a solubility relationship between the liquid lubricant and the gas, and a size of the bubbles of gas, and supply the liquid lubricant with entrained bubbles of gas to at least one moving part.
