The lubricating composition provides wear protection, deposit control, and improved acid control with reduced levels of metal-containing additives.
Lubricant composition containing an antiwear agent
The invention provides a lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and a protic acid salt of an N-hydrocarbyl-substituted gamma-(γ-) or delta-amino(thio)ester. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
LUBRICANT COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME
The present invention relates to a lubricant composition containing: a base oil (A); at least one kind of calcium-based detergent (B) selected from (B1) calcium sulfonate having a base number of 5.00 mgKOH/g or more and 100 mgKOH/g or less, (B2) calcium salicylate having a branched acyclic hydrocarbon group, and (B3) overbased calcium phenate having a branched acyclic hydrocarbon group; and at least one kind of ashless detergent (C) selected from (C1) a hindered amine compound having one piperidine-derived backbone in a molecule, and (C2) a specific diethanolamine compound. In the lubricant composition, the calcium atom content is 100 ppm by mass or more and 600 ppm by mass or less with respect to the total mass of the lubricant composition, and the ratio (N.sub.C/Ca.sub.B) of the nitrogen atom content (N.sub.C) of the ashless detergent (C) to the calcium atom content (Ca.sub.B) of the calcium-based detergent (B) is 1.3 to 3.1 as a mass ratio.
SULFUR-FREE, ASHLESS, LOW PHOSPHORUS LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS WITH IMPROVED OXIDATION STABILITY
Sulfur-free, ashless, and low phosphorus-containing lubricant compositions for use as engine oil having improved oxidation stability. The lubricant composition can include about 60.0 mass % to about 99.8 mass % of an oil base stock, at least one ashless antiwear additive, at least one ashless detergent, and at least one antioxidant, based on a total mass of the lubricant composition. The oil base stock can include at least one polyalphaolefin and at least one alkyl naphthalene. The lubricant composition can contain less than about 0.05 mass % phosphorus, less than about 0.05 mass % sulfur, and less than about 0.05 mass % ash. The lubricant composition can be made by a process that includes combining the above-mentioned components to provide a lubricant composition.
Synergistic lubricants with reduced electrical conductivity
A method of lubricating at least a portion of a powertrain in a vehicle with an electric motor with a functional fluid composition containing greater than 50 wt % of a base oil; and an additive composition prepared by mixing: a) a hydrocarbyl acid phosphate of the formula (I) to provide at least 50 ppmw phosphorus to the functional fluid composition; ##STR00001##
wherein R is a C.sub.1-C.sub.6 hydrocarbyl group and R.sub.1 is selected from hydrogen and a C.sub.1-C.sub.6 hydrocarbyl group; b) an amount of one or more calcium-containing detergent(s) sufficient to provide at least 25 ppmw calcium to the functional fluid composition; and c) one or more nitrogen containing dispersants in an amount sufficient to provide greater than 20 ppmw of nitrogen to the functional fluid composition, all based on the total weight of the functional fluid composition. Functional fluid compositions containing the above-mentioned components and lubricating methods are also disclosed herein.
LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITIONS FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS
The present invention generally relates to lubricating oil compositions useful for automatic transmissions, and particularly transmission oils for automotive automatic transmissions in battery electrical vehicles (BEVs), hybrid vehicles (HVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs). The lubricant is free of metal compounds (e.g., Ca, Mo, or Zn) and demonstrates high volume resistivity, wear protection, and copper corrosion resistance.
LUBRICATING COMPOSITION CONTAINING AN OXYALKYLATED HYDROCARBYL PHENOL
The invention provides lubricating composition comprising: an oil of lubricating viscosity, and an oxyalkylated hydrocarbyl phenol, wherein the oxyalkylated hydrocarbyl phenol is substituted with at least one aliphatic hydrocarbyl group of 40 to 96 carbon atoms, and wherein the oxyalkylated hydrocarbyl phenol is substantially free of aromatic hydrocarbyl groups. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with the lubricating composition. The invention further relates to the use of the oxyalkylated hydrocarbyl phenol in the lubricating composition to a passenger car internal combustion engine at least one of (i) control of fuel economy, (ii) control of corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) control of bore wear.
