ALKYLBENZENE SULFONATE DETERGENTS

The instant disclosure relates to hydrocarbyl- (e.g., alkyl-) benzene sulfonate detergents and their salts, where the hydrocarbyl group includes moieties equivalent to 5 to 10 carbon branched polyene compounds. Such compounds and their salts are useful as lubricant additives. The detergents disclosed herein may solve at least one problem of providing anti-wear performance, frictional performance, oxidation performance, viscosity performance, and detergency.

Provided is an engine oil lubricant composition with improved fuel efficiency and engine wear protection. The lubricant composition may include a major amount of an oil basestock from any one or more Group I, Group II, Group III, Group IV or Group V base oils. The resulting engine oil lubricant composition may have a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 6 cSt or less, and a corrosion protection of at least 90, as measured according the ASTM D6557 Ball Rust Test. The resulting engine oil lubricant composition may also have a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 6 cSt or less, an HTHS (ASTM D4683) of less than or equal to 2.2 cP at 150° C. and a FZG failure load stage of at least 6, as measured by the FZG A10/16.6R/130 test procedure.

Additive concentrates for the formulation of lubricating oil compositions

A lubricant additive concentrate containing (i) dispersant that is the polybutenyl succinimide reaction product of a polyamine and polybutenyl succinic anhydride (PIBSA) derived from polybutene having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of from about 1300 to about 2500 daltons and a terminal vinylidene content of at least about 50% and maleic anhydride via an ene maleation process; (ii) overbased magnesium colloidal detergent having a total base number (TBN) of from about 300 to about 900 mg KOH/g; and (iii) organic friction modifier selected from hydroxyalkyl alkyl amines of C.sub.14 to C.sub.24 hydrocarbons, at least one hydroxyalkyl alkyl ether amines of C.sub.13 to C.sub.24 hydrocarbons, at least one alkyl ester amine derived from triethanol amine having a C.sub.13 to C.sub.24 hydrocarbyl substituent, at least one non-basic, fatty acid amide, or a mixture thereof; wherein the combined mass % of dispersant (i) and overbased magnesium colloidal detergent (ii) in said concentrate is from about 15 to about 50 mass %: the mass ratio of (i):(ii) is from about 1:1 to about 6:1; and the concentrate contains from about 2 to about 10 mass % of organic friction modifier (iii); the remainder of the concentrate being composed of base oil and additives other than dispersant (i), overbased magnesium colloidal detergent (ii) and organic friction modifier (iii).

Low molecular weight imide containing quaternary ammonium salts

The present technology is related to imide containing quaternary ammonium salts having a hydrocarbyl substituent of number average molecular weight ranging from 300 to 750, and the use of such quaternary ammonium salts in fuel compositions to improve the water shedding performance of the fuel composition.

The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition and a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine where the lubricating composition contains an oil of lubricating viscosity, one or more metal-containing, sulfur-free, alkyl-phenol based detergents, an alkaline earth metal sulfonate detergent, a polyisobutenyl succinimide dispersant, and a dispersant viscosity modifier having a number average molecular weight of at least 20,000. The lubricating composition of the present invention can be formulated to have lower HTHS viscosity, and reduced phosphorous content, while providing protection against adhesive wear.

Lubricating oil compositions

Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition comprising (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. in a range of about 2 to about 50 mm.sup.2/s; (b) a hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant; (c) a borated hydrocarbyl succinimide dispersant; and (d) a hydrocarbyl succinimide post-treated with a post-treating agent selected from the group consisting of an organic carbonate, an epoxide, a lactone, a hydroxyaliphatic carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof.
