SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF OIL FROM DISTILLERS DRIED GRAINS AND METHODS OF USING EXTRACTION PRODUCTS
20170183604 · 2017-06-29 ·

A process for extraction of crude oil from distillers dried grain solubles and/or distillers dried grains and producing corn distillers meal that may be used as a livestock supplement is disclosed. For example, the corn distillers meal may be used as a crude protein supplement for use in a livestock feed diet or a poultry feed diet. The solvent extracted crude oil may be suitable for oleochemical processing for personal care and home care products, biodiesel production, and/or renewable diesel production from hydro-treating the extracted oil to make green diesel fuel.

NOVEL MATERIALS DERIVED FROM FERMENTATION-PRODUCED RHAMNOLIPIDS AND METHODS OF PRODUCTION

A method of preparing a product derived from a rhamnolipid includes the steps of: providing a rhamnolipid, combining the rhamnolipid with a reagent, allowing the rhamnolipid and reagent to react to form a product derived from the rhamnolipid, and collecting the product derived from the rhamnolipid. An exemplary product is dimeric -hydroxy fatty acid.

MULTILAYER FILTRATION DEVICE
20170172346 · 2017-06-22 ·

A filtration device for filtering cooking oil is provided. The filtration device may include a hub and one or more filtration units having a central aperture to coupleably receive the hub. Each of the one or more filtration units may include a first upper filter sheet including a water insoluble or partially water insoluble material or combination of materials that convert or at least partially convert free fatty acid in the cooking oil to soap and a second upper filter sheet arranged adjacent to the first upper filter sheet and coupled thereto. The second upper filter sheet can include a material or combination of materials that remove or at least partially remove the soap from the cooking oil to produce filtered cooking oil. The one or more filtration units can be in fluid communication with the hub through which filtered cooking oil may be removed from the filtration device.

Solvent extraction of oil from distillers dried grains and methods of using extraction products

A process for extraction of crude oil from distillers dried grain solubles and/or distillers dried grains using a solvent extraction process and producing corn distillers meal that may be used as an animal feed supplement is disclosed. The corn distillers meal may be used as a crude protein supplement for use in a livestock feed diet, poultry feed diet, aquatic feed diet or the like. The solvent extracted crude oil may be suitable for other processes, including oleochemical processing for personal care and home care products, biodiesel production, and/or renewable diesel production from hydro-treating the extracted oil to make green diesel fuel.

Complete saponification and acidulation of natural oil processing byproducts

The present invention generally provides a process for treating a soapstock. The present invention more particularly provides systems and methods for treating a soapstock to generate free fatty acids and/or fatty acid derivatives, e.g. fatty acid alkyl esters. The present invention more particularly provides systems and methods for realizing the full fatty acid yield of a soapstock by first converting substantially all of the saponifiable material in a soapstock to salts of fatty acids (soaps) and acidulating the soaps to generate free fatty acids and/or fatty acid derivatives, e.g. fatty acid alkyl esters, wherein the soapstock comprises soaps and saponifiable lipids, e.g. glycerides and/or phospholipids, and the generating of free fatty acids and/or fatty acid is achieved without the use of a mineral acid.

Formulation to solidify cooking oil or grease and methods of making and using the same

A formulation for solidifying used cooking oil or grease and methods of making and using the same is disclosed. The formulation comprises hydrogenated castor oil, sometimes having a flake morphology. In some embodiments, the formulation has a melting point of between 70 and 80 C. and a density between 0.7 and 1.0 g/L. In some embodiments, the formulation is created by heating castor oil in the presence of a catalyst until at least some of the ricinoleic acid content in the castor oil is reduced to form hydrogenated castor oil in a reaction mixture. The method of using the formulation comprises the steps of mixing the formulation and used cooking oil or grease at an elevated temperature until the formulation completely dissolves into the used cooking oil to form a formulation mixture, and waiting until the formulation mixture cools and solidifies prior to disposal.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FATTY ACID PURIFICATION AND/OR LIPID MANUFACTURE

A method can include oxidizing hydrocarbons (and optionally oxygenates with oxygenation states less than carboxylic acids such as alcohols, aldehydes, etc.), separating the oxygenated hydrocarbons into saponifiable species and nonsaponifiable species, and treating the saponifiable species (e.g., heat treating, hydrogenation, etc. such as to reduce unsaturated bonds to saturated bonds, to convert oxygenates with greater degrees of oxygenation than monocarboxylic acids into monocarboxylic acids, etc.).
