The invention is an improved utility bedding product for use on beds or reclining chairs, particularly airplane seats. The inventive product is a multi-layered, lie-flat mattress pad that increases the comfort of passengers by providing a soft resting surface made of materials that permit the flow of air through the mattress pad. In preferred embodiments the mattress pad includes a pocket so the pad may be folded or rolled up and secured in a compact configuration for use as a pillow and for ease of transport.

A configurable foam mattress comfort system includes a firm foam mattress foundation including an upper surface having a triangular grooves disposed across a width thereof, and foam elongate cells configured to fit partially within corresponding triangular grooves from among the triangular grooves disposed across the width thereof. A length of each of the foam elongate cells is substantially equal to the width of the firm foam mattress foundation. The foam elongate cells are configured to be custom-stacked on each other and on the firm foam mattress foundation in accordance with a user's desired comfort configuration.

Thoracic region comfort seating system

A thoracic support for a seatback of a seat is provided. The thoracic support includes a center portion extending in an upright direction and adapted to be positioned adjacent the seatback to align adjacent a thoracic region a user's spine. The center portion is formed of a first foam material having a first hardness. A pair of side portions each disposed adjacent to and are connected with the center portion. The side portions are formed of a second foam material having a second hardness. The first hardness is greater than the second hardness so that the center portion provides support to at least a portion of the thoracic region of the user's spine.

The seat is configured to support the posterior thigh and/or buttocks of a seated user, the seat being configured to urge the hip of the seated user in a forward direction. The chest support is configured to support the chest of the seated user in a forward leaning position of the seated user. The hip support is configured to support the anterior hip of a seated user as the seat urges the seated user’s hip forwardly towards the hip support.

The inserts are provided with at least two different firmness of the foam, preferably with three different firmness of the foam selected from firm, medium and soft, producing as such an inexpensive, novel consumer-adjustable mattress in which the consumer can change the firmness of the entire mattress and/or the firmness on either side of the bed to accommodate each sleeper and/or the firmness under certain “body zones” within the mattress for their own personalized comfort preference and to reduce tossing and turning.

A method of installing an array of linear foam strips designed to be vertically stacked with their linear axes parallel and vertically aligned under a region of a mattress that requires a raised contour on its top face to alleviate a medical condition or to repair a sag in the mattress. The foam strip arrays come in 24 or 32 inch lengths to correspond to the width of standard mattress. Each linear foam strip has a different width but none of the strips are within 25% of the width of any other foam strip. The widths of the four different foam strips in the array has been carefully sized to allow the best possible combinations to develop the proper height and side slope of the contour developed in the mattress's top face.
