Patient support systems and methods of use
A patient support system includes a patient support apparatus and a support surface mounted on the patient support apparatus. The patient support apparatus is reconfigurable among a plurality of different configurations for supporting a patient on the support surface in a plurality of positions. The support surface is mounted on the patient support apparatus to move in response to reconfiguration of the patient support apparatus.

Adjustable comfort mattress system and processes
Hybrid coil and air chamber assemblies for cushioning supports generally include pressurized air chambers that are positioned intermediate strings of pocketed coils. In this manner, the coils and air chambers can move independently but can be made to cooperate to provide firmness control, contouring and/or support of a user thereof. Air pressure within the air chambers can be independently adjusted to manipulate firmness and/or contour properties in specific zones defined by the presence and location of the air chambers, e.g., pressure of the air chambers corresponding to the lumbar region can be adjusted to eliminate high pressure points. Still further, the pressure within the air chambers can be automatically adjusted to different applied loads as a function of movement. Also disclose are processes for adjusting a mattress including the hybrid coil and air assemblies.

SELF-INFLATING MATTRESS WITH COMFORT ADJUSTMENT
Sealed foam, self-inflating mattress system includes a mattress core formed of open-cell foam. The mattress core includes first and second major sleeping surfaces on opposing sides of the mattress and at least one side wall which extends between the two major sleeping surfaces. An elastomeric coating encloses the mattress core to define an airtight mattress chamber. A vacuum pump is disposed in a recess of the mattress core and operatively coupled to the airtight mattress chamber. The vacuum pump is configured to selectively establish a negative PSIG internal operation pressure within the airtight mattress chamber. The negative PSIG internal operation pressure improves a comfort of the self-inflating mattress.
SELF-INFLATING MATTRESS WITH COMFORT ADJUSTMENT
Sealed foam, self-inflating mattress system includes a mattress core formed of open-cell foam. The mattress core includes first and second major sleeping surfaces on opposing sides of the mattress and at least one side wall which extends between the two major sleeping surfaces. An elastomeric coating encloses the mattress core to define an airtight mattress chamber. A vacuum pump is disposed in a recess of the mattress core and operatively coupled to the airtight mattress chamber. The vacuum pump is configured to selectively establish a negative PSIG internal operation pressure within the airtight mattress chamber. The negative PSIG internal operation pressure improves a comfort of the self-inflating mattress.
PERSON SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH INGRESS/EGRESS ASSIST
Embodiments include a person support apparatus including a plurality of air fluidizable material, a tub, a foam bolster disposed along at least one wall of the tub and extending over the at least one wall, and an inflatable air bladder disposed above the foam bolster along the at least one wall of the tub. A method of assisting a person with ingress or egress of a person support apparatus by deflating the inflatable air bladder and adjusting a level of fluidization of the air fluidizable material such that the surface supporting the portion of the person is substantially level with a top of the foam bolster is also described.
PERSON SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH INGRESS/EGRESS ASSIST
Embodiments include a person support apparatus including a plurality of air fluidizable material, a tub, a foam bolster disposed along at least one wall of the tub and extending over the at least one wall, and an inflatable air bladder disposed above the foam bolster along the at least one wall of the tub. A method of assisting a person with ingress or egress of a person support apparatus by deflating the inflatable air bladder and adjusting a level of fluidization of the air fluidizable material such that the surface supporting the portion of the person is substantially level with a top of the foam bolster is also described.
Bed microclimate control
A bed system includes microclimate control capabilities for providing quality sleep experience. The bed system can include a microclimate control subsystem configured to supply conditioned air (e.g., heated or cooled air) to a mattress, or draw ambient air from the mattress, to achieve a desired temperature at the top of the mattress. Utilizing supply of conditioned air to provide air at desired temperature to the mattress system, or utilizing air suction to drain heat away from the mattress system, can provide precise microclimate control at the mattress, thereby permitting conformable sleep.
