10577648 · 2020-03-03 · ·

The invention relates to the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy for cellular sample analysis. In some embodiments a method of performing mass spectroscopy analysis using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy system is provided. The method may include introducing a cellular sample comprising one or more cells or cellular particles into an inductively coupled plasma of the inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy system. The method may further include using the inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy system to assess the cellular sample by detecting and measuring one or more element tags in the cellular sample based on the element or isotopic compositions of the one or more element tags.

ARTICLES AND METHODS INVOLVING DETECTION OF BINDING
20200018769 · 2020-01-16 · ·

Articles and methods involving detection of binding between two or more species using MALDI are generally provided. In some embodiments, a method comprises exposing a first species to a composition comprising a second species, capturing the first species on a self-assembled monolayer, and performing MALDI on the self-assembled monolayer to generate a signal from the second species and a signal from a standard species present in the self-assembled monolayer. A ratio (first ratio) of the signal from the second species to the signal from the standard species may be compared to a cutoff value in order to determine if binding has occurred. This method may allow determination of a relative affinity of the second species for the first species.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a combination of experimental and computational workflows that allow characterization of skin and subcutaneous tissue microbial flora and its associated metabolome, aiming to first evaluate an individual's skin and subcutaneous tissue to determine if any skin condition is as a result of an imbalance or absence of commensal or mutualistic microorganisms or their associated metabolites. In particular, embodiments of the methods and the associated computational platform provided herein relate to conducting a customized or personalized test and obtaining customized or personalized information regarding the skin and subcutaneous tissue flora and its associated metabolome there from. This may be accomplished by simultaneously identifying hundreds of microorganisms or metabolites on an individual's skin and subcutaneous tissue and comparing the resulting profile to a previously compiled healthy profile from our database of skin profiles. An individual's profile provides the basis of a proprietary probiotic skin care product and personal care products that either maintains a health profile or shifts the individual's skin and subcutaneous tissue flora or its associated metabolome close to a healthy profile, at the same time enhancing the synergies between the microbial flora and host's immune system.
