Compositions for generating antimicrobial activity are described. The compositions comprise: a first phase; a second phase; an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide; and a substance that includes a substrate for the enzyme, wherein the first phase and the second phase are immiscible. The compositions may be formulated as colloids, suspensions or emulsions, especially as creams or sprays. Methods of making the compositions are described, as well as their use for the treatment of antimicrobial infections.

COMPOSITION COMPRISING AN OXIDOREDUCTASE ENZYME AND ITS ANTIBACTERIAL USE
A composition comprising an oxidoreductase enzyme and a substrate for the enzyme for use in treating or preventing biofilm formation by a population of pathogenic bacteria. The composition can be incorporated into a wound dressing for use in promoting wound healing.
AgsE-deficient strain
The present invention relates to a mutant microbial host cell which is deficient in the production of the AgsE protein or in the production of an homologous thereof if compared with a parent microbial host cell which has not been modified and measured under the same conditions. It has been surprisingly found that when the mutant microbial host cell according to the invention is used in a method to produce a compound of interest, for example an enzyme, an improved yield of said compound is obtained if compared to a method in which a parent host cell which has not been modified is used when measured under the same conditions.

Multiplex detection of bacterial pathogens via cell wall binding domain complexes
Methods and systems are directed to multiplex detection of a bacterial pathogen in a sample. A first biotinylated lysin-derived cell wall binding domain is complexed with an avidin layer on a surface. A first bacterial pathogen detection complex including a second biotinylated lysin-derived cell wall binding domain, a detection domain, and an avidin linker complexed between the cell wall binding domain and the detection domain is also provided. The cell wall binding domains are derived from an endolysin, autolysin, bacteriocin, or exolysin, and are configured to bind a cell wall of a target bacterial pathogen. The detection domain includes one or more enzymes, fluorescent material, or DNA for emitting a signal for detection. Target bacterial pathogens present in a sample can thus be detected in a sandwich assay exhibiting increased selectivity and reduced limit of detection relative to traditional ELISA.
Hierarchical magnetic nanoparticle-enzyme mesoporous assemblies embedded in macroporous scaffolds
A hierarchical catalyst composition comprising a continuous or particulate macroporous scaffold in which is incorporated mesoporous aggregates of magnetic nanoparticles, wherein an enzyme is embedded in mesopores of the mesoporous aggregates of magnetic nanoparticles. Methods for synthesizing the hierarchical catalyst composition are also described. Also described are processes that use the recoverable hierarchical catalyst composition for depolymerizing lignin, remediation of water contaminated with aromatic substances, polymerizing monomers by a free-radical mechanism, epoxidation of alkenes, halogenation of phenols, inhibiting growth and function of microorganisms in a solution, and carbon dioxide conversion to methanol. Further described are methods for increasing the space time yield and/or total turnover number of a liquid-phase chemical reaction that includes magnetic particles to facilitate the chemical reaction, the method comprising subjecting the chemical reaction to a plurality of magnetic fields of selected magnetic strength, relative position in the chemical reaction, and relative motion.
Process and Apparatus for Manufacturing Water-Absorbing Material and Use in Cat Litter
A process for manufacturing particles of water-absorbing material is provided. The process includes providing a powder bed composed of an absorptive powder comprising a water-absorbing polysaccharide onto a surface; releasing an aqueous solution from a solution dispenser so as to contact the powder bed, 5 thereby forming a solution-impregnated humid material; letting the solution-impregnated humid material agglomerate in substantially shear-less conditions to form an agglomerated humid material, the solution-impregnated humid material being supported by the surface; and drying the agglomerated humid material, thereby forming the particles.
