A smart pillow to avoid neck pain and pressure sores and promote healthy sleep includes a body, a processing unit, a plurality of pressure sensors, and a plurality of air bags. The pressure sensors and the air bags are mounted in the body. Each air bag includes a bi-directional valve. The pressure sensors can detect values of pressure on the body and thus the body of a user, and transmit the detected pressure values to the processing unit. The processing unit can control the bi-directional valves of the air bags in accordance with the received pressure values to adjust air amounts of each of the air bags by indrawing or releasing air. The smart pillow guides and supports a user's neck.

The present invention is directed towards a travel pillow for sleeping in a vertical or near-vertical reclined position. When sleeping in these positions, gravity tends to pull the head forward of the shoulders causing it to droop. The current state of the art travel pillow does not provide a support means to counter this forward drooping tendency. Moreover, its rear support displaces the cervical spine forward, further increasing the tendency for the head to slump forward. The present invention holds a resting head in an upright and stable position to prevent forward head drooping and does so without forwardly displaying the cervical spine. The five novel elements of the present invention are integrally configured to maintain a healthy alignment between the occipital bone of the head, the cervical spine of the neck, and the thoracic spine of the upper back.

Bedding System with a CNN Based Machine Vision Process

A bedding system uses a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based machine vision to makes adjustments for comfort and/or support. The machine vision process identities a body position by using a trained CNN that receives a pressure image and identifies a body position. The body position may be determined by classifying the pressure image into a predetermined body position classification. The machine vision process includes at least one trained CNN that determines joint locations. The machine vision tracks pressure accumulated at joints over time.
