A pillow is provided herein which includes a cover having opposing first and second panels. A gusset perimetrically bounds, and joins, the first and second panels. The gusset is formed of an open cell construction. Compliant fill material is disposed within the cover. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a pillow is provided allowing for lateral ventilation between opposing panels. This permits a cooling effect while a user is resting or sleeping.

The lower cushion may pivotably move with the patient's legs, allowing the cushion structure to be comfortably used when moving between standing and seated positions, and providing improved protection from automotive seat belts. Pockets may be provided for positioning ice packs proximate the patient's body and for inconspicuously placing a negative-pressure wound therapy vacuum pump or other items.

The peltier cooler transfers heat from the bottom side of the peltier cooler to the heatsink module. The water tube absorbs heat from the heatsink module. The fiberglass bottom stabilizes the heatsink module. The fiberglass bottom also insulates the heat within the cooler module. The pressure sensor is formed in the cooler module. The pressure sensor measures pressure from the user. The pillow antenna is formed within the cooler module.

Pillows of the inventive subject matter comprise a hexagonal top surface, a hexagonal bottom surface, and one or more pockets that allow users to place warming/cooling pads beneath the top surface of the pillow. In some embodiments, up to three pockets can be included, where each pocket is accessible along an edge of the top surface. When divided into third, each pocket can be accessible along an edge of the hexagonal outer edge of the top surface such that a user's neck can rest along that edge to improve contact with a warming/cooling pad. Embodiments include an air hub to facilitate inflation and deflation, and a stiff pillow base can be included as well.

Further, the apparatus includes supporting members to spread the weight of a seated person.
