A first bracket is affixed to the inside surface of the door and connected to a first U-shaped bracket with a downwardly facing open part. The two legs of the first U-shaped bracket are pivotally attached to longitudinal rods extending underneath the mailbox. The distal end of each longitudinal rod is pivotally attached to a second U-shaped bracket with a downwardly facing open part. A first end of a traveling rod extends upwardly from the lateral part of the second U-shaped bracket, and a second end of the traveling rod is attached to a shaft. A wheel bearing is situated on either end of the shaft, and a receiving bracket is attached to the rear wall of the receptacle and configured to receive the wheel bearings and shaft.

The frame and door made of wood, metal, plastic, rubber or other materials can be made as part of a new mailbox or made as a complete assembly to be added to an existing mailbox. The frame comprises channels with springs to hold door closed. The door having pins or one rod horizontally mounted on the door or held on each side of the door by collars and springs also used to hold the door closed or move the door vertically and inward as it moves toward the bottom of the mailbox. The pins extend into the channels on the frame.

The mailbox has a door for opening and closing the mailbox, a servo motor connected to a pair of springs to control movement of the mailbox door, a high resolution camera to capture video of inside and around the mailbox, a mail sensor to detect the presence of a parcel in the mailbox and a solar panel configured to provide electrical power to the components of the mailbox.

A lid pivotally covers the open-top and can be lifted for gaining access into the interior of the enclosure. A pair of flaps coupled inside the enclosure to the sidewalls and just below a periphery of the open-top. The flaps can pivot between a horizontal position and a downward vertical position. The lid is coupled to the pair of flaps, such as pivoting of the lid results in pivoting of the flaps. Opening of the lid results in pivoting of the flaps to a horizontal position which restricts the access to the interior of the enclosure from the open-top i.e., the pair of flaps substantially cover the open-top when in the horizontal position.
