A containment unit that facilitates delivery of parcels using drones is provided. An example containment unit comprises an inner housing unit and an outer housing unit. The inner housing unit includes a first and second sidewall that are connected by an end piece and have a bottom opening in between. The inner housing unit is movable from a retracted position over a floor of the containment unit to an extended position, where a portion of the opening is extended beyond the floor. A parcel may be inserted into a volume of space within the inner housing unit from below through the opening and pulled into the containment unit by the end piece when the inner housing unit is retracted. The containment unit can be used as part of a drone delivery system that can also include an elevated delivery platform, a computer application, or any combination of these aspects.

A method of allowing access to a receptacle for securing a package includes: sensing an opening and closing of the lid; activating, in response to determining the lid is sufficiently closed, the lock mechanism to transition from the unlocked state to the locked state; scanning an email message in a user's email account to identify a reference or tracking number of a second package; parsing the email message to obtain a delivery code; receiving entry of the delivery code; activating the lock mechanism based on entry of the delivery code to transition from the locked state to the unlocked state; sensing a second opening and closing of the lid; activating the lock mechanism to transition from the unlocked state to the locked state; receiving information corresponding to entry of an access code; activating the lock mechanism to transition from the locked state to the unlocked state.

A securable delivery container for temporarily securely storing deliveries and limiting access comprising a container having a bottom, a plurality of walls a receiving compartment defined therein, a lid attachment, a lid for accessing the compartment, and a compartment anchor point for securing a deployable external compartment, a temperature controlled compartment, a lock, a deployable external compartment for deliveries with one receiving compartment defined therein, and a lock for the external compartment, whereby a delivery person unlocks the securable delivery container, places a package, inside the container and locks the container unless the package is too large or an odd shape that will not fit in the securable delivery container, then a delivery person deploys the external compartment and places the odd package inside the external compartment and secures the delivery to securable delivery container, closes the lid, and locks the securable delivery container locking the external container.

A parcel storage assembly includes a box that has an upper door and a lower door. A first tray and a second tray is each pivotally integrated into the box. The first tray and the second tray are positioned in a deployed position for having the parcel positioned thereon when the upper door is opened. The first tray and the second tray are each positioned in a stored position when the upper door is closed in order to drop the parcel downwardly in the box. An alert unit is integrated into the box and the alert unit detects when the parcel falls into the box. The alert unit broadcasts an alert signal to the personal electronic device when the alert unit detects the parcel to alert the authorized recipient that the parcel has been deposited into the box.

A parcel storage assembly includes a box that has an upper door and a lower door. A first tray and a second tray is each pivotally integrated into the box. The first tray and the second tray are positioned in a deployed position for having the parcel positioned thereon when the upper door is opened. The first tray and the second tray are each positioned in a stored position when the upper door is closed in order to drop the parcel downwardly in the box. A food delivery receptacle assembly for protecting food deliveries includes a box in which a set of openings is positioned. A food container can be inserted into the box through a respective opening. Each of a set of panels is hingedly engaged to the box and is positioned to selectively close a respective opening. Insulation is engaged to an inner surface of the box and to an inner face of each panel. The insulation reduces heat transfer between food in the food container and air outside of the box. Each of a set of locks is engaged to the box and is selectively engageable to a respective panel. The locks are electronically actuated to deter unauthorized access to the food container. The locks can be deactivated to permit authorized access to the food container, thus allowing access to the box by a delivery agent and a user.

A locking unit is coupled to the box and the locking unit engages the lid when the locking unit is turned on to inhibit the lid from is opened. The locking unit is in wireless communication with a personal electronic device to facilitate a user to remotely lock and unlock the box. A light emitter is coupled to the box to kill bacteria and sterilizing the parcel delivered by the parcel delivery person. A cooler is positionable within the box for receiving a food delivery positioned therein.
