Spool brake device for dual-bearing reel
A spool brake device for a fishing reel includes an electric spool brake, a rotation detector, and a controller. The rotation detector detects a rotation of the spool. The controller calculates a rotational velocity of the spool based on the rotation of the spool, determines whether the fishing reel is in a casting state based on the rotational velocity, controls the spool brake to brake the spool upon a determination that the fishing reel is in the casting state, and controls the spool brake to not brake the spool upon a determination that the fishing reel is not in the casting state.
Spool brake device for dual-bearing reel
The present spool brake device is configured to brake a spool, rotatably mounted to a reel unit, by a centrifugal force. The present spool brake device includes a rotary member, a brake drum and a brake shoe. The rotary member is configured to be rotated in conjunction with a rotation of the spool. The brake drum is disposed in an alignment with the spool along a rotational axis of the spool and is mounted to the reel unit. The brake shoe is contactable to an outer periphery of the brake drum and is pivotably supported by the rotary member, with a center of gravity of the brake shoe being located radially outside the brake drum.
Dual-bearing reel
A dual-bearing reel includes a reel body, a spool rotatable relative to the reel body, a spool shaft integrally rotatable with the spool, a one-way clutch and an operating lever. The one-way clutch includes an outer ring rotatable relative to the reel body and a rolling body configured to transmit rotation of the spool shaft in a casting direction to the outer ring. The one-way clutch is attached to the spool shaft. The operating lever has a flat shape, is attached to the reel body, and extends in a radial direction. The operating lever is configured to adjust a braking force that brakes the rotation of the outer ring.
Fishing reel
A fishing reel is provided, which includes: a frame having a through hole and a mounting part; a spool rotatably disposed inside of the frame with a fishing line wound thereon; a main shaft inserted into the spool; a brake unit mounted on the spool to put the brake thereon; and a cover unit disposed on the brake unit. The brake unit includes: a retainer having a fixing groove and a plurality of first guide grooves; a brake shoe housing fixed to the retainer and has a plurality of slots, a plurality of second guide grooves, and a plurality of mounting grooves; brake shoes mounted in the plurality of slots so as to be inserted into the slots or withdrawn therefrom; and pivot members mounted in the mounting grooves to press the brake shoes.

Fly fishing reel with brake assembly and methods
A fishing reel and related method include a housing, a spool, and a brake assembly. The housing includes an external circumferential surface and an internal circumferential surface. The spool is configured to have a length of fishing line wound thereon, and is rotatable relative to the housing about a rotation shaft. The brake assembly is mounted to and rotatable with the spool. The brake assembly includes a plurality of pivotally mounted pawls. The plurality of pawls each include a contact surface arranged facing the internal circumferential surface. Rotation of the fishing reel upon the fishing line being pulled out of the fishing reel when a fish pulls on the fishing line causes a centrifugal force that moves the contact surface of the plurality of pawls into contact with the internal circumferential surface to reduce a rotational speed of the spool relative to the housing.
