Heeled footwear such as a shoe or boot including a sole assembly and a heel part may be provided. In one implementation, the heel part may include an insert formed in a first material. The insert may include a core body delimited by an upper surface, a lower bottom surface, and an outer surface connecting the upper and lower surfaces. At least a part of the outer surface may be encased in a second material different from the first material. The outer material may form an outer contour layer of the heel part, and the sole assembly may include an outsole formed in the second material, the second material being softer than the first material. The outsole and the outer contour layer may be designed to be formed in one piece providing an outer sole unit being one component.

The recycled thermoplastic material may be derived at least in part from scrap thermoplastic foam from an operation of making a sole component of the shoe, but the shoe component including the recycled thermoplastic material may have a density greater than that of the sole component. Both shoe components may be bio-based. Methods for making shoe components including the recycled thermoplastic material are also disclosed.

An interchangeable heel device for a shoe is disclosed. The device has an upper base and a key. The upper base has a receiving recess that is configured to be located in a heel area of a shoe below an insole of the shoe. The key is for attaching to an upper side of a heel of a shoe. The key is movable within the receiving recess between a released position and an engaged position. In the engaged position each key first engagement portion is engaged with one of the receiving first engagement portions and each key second engagement portions is engaged with one of the receiving second engagement portions to join the key to the perimeter and the heel to the sole. In the released position each key first engagement portion is aligned with one of the receiving recessed regions and the key is removable from the receiving recess.

The heel member extends downwardly from the lower sole member. The heel member includes a heel outer peripheral surface and an open top heel cavity. The lower sole member includes a top surface and a lower sole cavity extending downwardly from the top surface. The shank member has a shank midfoot portion and a shank heel portion. The shank midfoot portion is in the lower sole cavity and the shank heel portion is in the heel cavity. The heel cushion is in the heel cavity. The shank heel portion is sandwiched between the heel cushion and the heel member.
