In some embodiments, a formulation delivery device comprising a motor and a formulation dispensing assembly is provided. The formulation dispensing assembly comprises a reciprocating nozzle assembly operated by the motor. The formulation delivery device further comprises circuitry configured to generate signals indicative of application of one or more formulation products dispensed by the formulation dispensing assembly, and circuitry configured to transmit the signals indicative of the application of the formulation products to a usage analysis system. In some embodiments, a computer-implemented method of automatically determining at least one hair characteristic for a subject is provided. A computing system receives signals from a formulation delivery device indicative of application of one or more dispensed formulation products, analyzes the signals to automatically determine the at least one hair characteristic, and stores the at least one hair characteristic in a usage data store.

A method and a device for determining a degree of thermal hair damage are provided. A method for determining a degree of thermal hair damage includes, during exposure of a hair sample of hair to UV or UV/VIS light, recording a spectrum of at least a portion of the UV or UV/VIS light that has interacted with the hair sample. Further, the method includes comparing at least a portion of the spectrum with a spectroscopic calibration model obtained using UV or UV/VIS spectra and degrees of thermal damage of a plurality of calibration hair samples. Also, the method includes determining the degree of thermal hair damage by using the comparison.

The present invention is directed to a Hair Pigment Dispensing (“HPD”) device that may be connected to the internet and intended for professional hairstylists to prepare their hair color formulations. Hair dying is a process that can take several hours and requires precise measurements, high attention to detail, and informed decision making. Not to mention, hair dying requires a large inventory of products to be readily available to the hairstylist. The present invention aims to decrease errors in product measurement, inventory size, and time spent mixing hair color ingredients to improve the overall experience for both the hairstylist and the client. Furthermore, the present invention provides the advantage of storing data from various client mixtures either locally or within a cloud server so that a customer can receive uniform coloring.

Systems and methods for automated makeup application allow a user to select and apply desired makeup styles to the user's face. The systems and methods include a computer application with a graphical user interface which allows selection of a look from a plurality of preconfigured looks. A camera coupled with a robotic arm records a face map and color coding and sends that data to be stored on a virtual server database. The application calculates formula quantity and a pump extracts desired formula amounts from appropriate formula cartridges which it releases into reservoirs on the robotic arm's head. An airbrush compressor mixes the formula and plug triggers release one of several airbrush nozzles to start spraying the user's face with formula. A cleaning mechanism is provided between makeup applications and after the final application.

The presently disclosed subject matter relates to a system for customizing a cosmetic product. The system includes: an interface device, in electronic communication with a single batch formulation device. The single batch formulation device is configured to formulate a customized cosmetic product, and a threaded container configured to be imported into the single batch formulation device containing a base and exported from the single batch formulation device containing the customized cosmetic.

The applicator array device may include a plurality of applicator elements disposed on the substrate, together defining an applicator array. Each applicator element may include a first electrode, an electroactive polymer layer disposed on the first electrode, and a second electrode, disposed on the electroactive polymer layer. The applicator array device may also include an applicator surface overlying the applicator array. Each applicator element may be configured to switch between a first position and a second position upon application of a voltage to the first electrode or the second electrode, or upon removal of the voltage from the first electrode or the second electrode.
