An improved towel dispenser includes a rotatable driveshaft mounted in a one-way clutch bearing fitted with a pinion which engages a vertically oriented press bar assembly including at its lower portion a rack which engages the pinion to advance paper towel through a dispensing nip upon pivotable motion of the press bar assembly. A dispensing chute located below the dispensing nip includes a lower shelf configured to direct web forwardly toward the front portion of a dispenser. The gear rack is preferably an internal gear rack integrally formed with a unitary press bar assembly member. The dispensing chute is configured such that an angle between a cutting-blade and the outer lip of the shelf makes an angle with a vertical of at least about 25.

A resistance mechanism for a sheet product dispenser for dispensing a length of sheet product from a roll of sheet product rotatably supported by the sheet product dispenser is provided. The resistance mechanism includes an arm configured to frictionally engage a surface of the roll of sheet product, and a spring attached to the arm and configured to bias the arm into engagement with the surface of the roll of sheet product, such that the resistance mechanism provides a pull force resistance opposing a pull force applied to a tail portion of the roll of sheet product.

A rolled product dispenser for dispensing a web of rolled product, comprising: a housing; and a dispensing assembly at least partially housed in the housing and interacting with the web of rolled product and including a dispensing roller having a rotation center and a peripheral wall with an upper section. The dispensing assembly can comprise an upper tensioning assembly and/or a lower tensioning assembly and/or a variable tension return assembly.

A lockout system that is configured to limit use of a rolled web material dispenser assembly to dispense only authorized rolls of web material. The lockout system includes respective first and second mating registration elements that removeably cooperate with one another and provide a rotational cooperation therebetween when engaged with one another. One of the registration elements is non-removeably associated with each authorized roll of web material and the mating registration element is associated with the rolled web material dispenser assembly. The first registration element is supported by the bore of discrete authorized rolls of web material. The corresponding and mating second registration element is supported by the roll dispenser. Mating of the first and second registration elements provides a rotatable linkage that facilitates rotation of the roll relative to the dispenser assembly during the dispense activity.

A method of dispensing a user-determined length of sheet product from a roll of sheet product via a sheet product dispenser is provided. The method includes the steps of providing the roll of sheet product rotatably supported by the sheet product dispenser for dispensing sheet product therefrom, wherein the roll of sheet product rotates in response to a pull force applied to a tail portion of the roll of sheet product; and providing, via the sheet product dispenser, a pull force resistance opposing the rotation of the roll of sheet product, wherein the pull force resistance is between 36 grams-force and 96 grams-force throughout a majority of a life of the roll of sheet product.

A material dispenser comprising a housing, a mounting for a roll of material to be dispensed, and a material level indicator, in which said mounting comprises a first support member for rotationally supporting a first side of a roll of material to be dispensed in a plane, in which said material level indicator comprises an arm rotationally mounted to said dispenser at a pivot point, said arm comprising a visual indicator member at a first end thereof and a lateral abutment axially displaced from said visual indicator member for engaging with said first side of said roll of material, in which said arm is rotatable about said pivot point between a first position in which said arm is substantially parallel with said plane and said lateral abutment traverses said plane, and a second position in which said arm is arranged at an angle to said plane, and said lateral abutment and said visual indicator member are laterally displaced.

A rolled product dispenser for dispensing a web of rolled product. The rolled product dispenser includes a dispensing assembly, a return mechanism, and a blocking mechanism. The dispensing assembly includes a rotating drum assembly having a peripheral wall configured to be contoured at least partially by the web of rolled product. The rotating drum assembly is rotatable in a dispensing rotation direction and a counter dispensing rotation direction along at least 90 degrees. The return mechanism biases the rotating drum towards a stationary configuration by rotating same in the counter dispensing rotation direction. The blocking mechanism is engageable with the rotating drum assembly to prevent rotation thereof in the counter dispensing rotation direction beyond at least one predetermined angular position.

A rolled product dispenser for dispensing a web of rolled product is described. The rolled product dispenser comprises a dispensing assembly, a return mechanism, and a blocking mechanism. The dispensing assembly includes a rotating drum assembly having a peripheral wall configured to be contoured at least partially by the web of rolled product. The rotating drum assembly is rotatable in a dispensing rotation direction and a counter dispensing rotation direction along at least 90 degrees. The return mechanism biases the rotating drum towards a stationary configuration by rotating same in the counter dispensing rotation direction. The blocking mechanism is engageable with the rotating drum assembly to prevent rotation thereof in the counter dispensing rotation direction beyond at least one predetermined angular position.

A rolled product dispenser for dispensing a web of rolled product, comprising: a housing; and a dispensing assembly at least partially housed in the housing and interacting with the web of rolled product and including a dispensing roller having a rotation center and a peripheral wall with an upper section. The dispensing assembly can comprise an upper tensioning assembly and/or a lower tensioning assembly and/or a variable tension return assembly.

A sheet material dispenser comprising an operation trigger and a rotatable drum for frictionally engaging sheet material to be dispensed, in which said operation trigger is manually movable in a first direction from a stand-by position to a depressed position, in which said dispenser comprises a return spring which drives said operation trigger in a second direction from said depressed position to said stand-by position, and in which said operation trigger comprises a releasable engagement mechanism which engages said drum and rotates it only when said operation trigger is moved in said second direction.
