DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR SELF-COLLECTION OF BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES
A universal single-handed device for self-collection of a biological sample is described herein. The single-handed device may comprise a sheath comprising a distal end for insertion into a portion of a user's body, a shaft at least partially within the sheath, having a collection head for collecting the biological sample positioned at the distal end thereof, and an actuator coupled to the shaft to transition the distal end between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The collection head is covered by the distal end in the closed configuration and is exposed when the distal end is in the open configuration.
SEXUAL ASSAULT EVIDENCE COLLECTION KIT USABLE BY A VICTIM
A sexual assault evidence collection kit that may be used by the victim or other non-professionals. The kit may be simplified compared to kits for professional use, and may be usable with no specialized training. Victims may therefore be able to collect evidence themselves after an assault, instead of searching for a facility with personnel trained in forensic evidence collection, and enduring a long, intrusive examination. Embodiments may include a package (for example a clear bag) and the following components inside the package: gloves, swabs, swab containers, water, evidence collection bags, evidence bag sealing tape, evidence collection tape, a permanent marker, and instructions on how to identify, collect, seal, document, and store evidence.
ASSAY SYSTEM INCLUDING ASSAY APPARATUS AND HANDHELD SINGLE USE ASSAY DEVICES FOR USE THEREWITH
Assay system including assay apparatus and handheld single use assay devices for ElectroMagnetic Radiation (EMR) examination of a specimen. The assay devices include a housing, a specimen slide for elevation from an initial lowermost specimen introduction position to a final uppermost specimen examination position and a built-in liquid reagent dispensing arrangement for dispensing liquid reagent on the specimen slide. The assay apparatus automatically actuates an assay device and includes an imaging arrangement for obtaining specimen images.
Methods and devices for fallopian tube diagnostics
Methods and devices for performing minimally invasive procedures useful for Fallopian tube diagnostics are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the proximal os of the Fallopian tube is accessed via an intrauterine approach; an introducer catheter is advanced to cannulate and form a fluid tight seal with the proximal os of the Fallopian tube; a second catheter inside the introducer catheter is provided to track the length of the Fallopian tube and out into the abdominal cavity; a balloon at the end of the second catheter is inflated and the second catheter is retracted until the balloon seals the distal os of the Fallopian tube; irrigation is performed substantially over the length of the Fallopian tube; and the irrigation fluid is recovered for cytology or cell analysis.
Device and method for locating and retaining biopsy sampling device on epithelial tissue
In various embodiments of the invention, a tissue biopsy sampling device is located or oriented on a site within a body cavity or canal with a retention device. In various embodiments of the invention, a tissue biopsy sampling device is retained or held in place on a desired specific location on the epithelial tissue with the retention device. In various embodiments of the invention, the epithelial tissue within the cavity or canal is presented to the tissue biopsy sampling device using the retention device. In various embodiments of the invention, the retention device is used to assist withdrawal of the tissue biopsy sampling from within the body cavity or canal.
ADHESIVE TAPE FOR COLLECTING SKIN INDIGENOUS MICROORGANISMS, METHOD OF EVALUATING PHYSICAL CONDITION OF SUBJECT, METHOD OF PRESENTING INFORMATION TO SUBJECT AND METHOD OF SCREENING FOR SUBSTANCE CAPABLE OF IMPROVING OR PREVENTING PHYSICAL CONDITION, AND ADHESIVE TAPE FOR COLLECTING SKIN METABOLITES
Provided is an adhesive tape for collecting skin indigenous microorganisms, the adhesive tape being capable of providing improved collection yields of skin indigenous microorganisms on a skin surface. This adhesive tape is for collecting skin indigenous microorganisms, is used to collect skin indigenous microorganism on a skin surface, and comprises a base material and an adhesive layer provided on at least a portion of a surface of the base material, wherein the adhesive layer contains an adhesive, and the adhesive contains a rubber adhesive. The adhesive tape has an adhesive strength of 10.0 N or more when a 12 mm-wide test piece thereof is pressure-bonded to a Bakelite plate by one reciprocation of a 2 kg roller and then measured for adhesive strength at a pulling speed of 300 mm/min and a pulling angle of 90° according to JIS Z 0237: 2009, and the adhesive tape has a peel strength of 0.25 N or more when a 12 mm-wide test piece thereof is measured using a silicone-treated fine paper sheet as a release sheet and measured for peel strength at a pulling speed of 300 mm/min and a pulling angle of 180° according to JIS Z 0237: 2009.
EXPANDABLE DEVICE FOR TISSUE COLLECTION FROM AN AERODIGESTIVE BODY LUMEN
A device for obtaining tissue from the aerodigestive tract is provided. The device may have internal and external folds and a tissue collection surface for collecting a tissue sample from a body lumen, such as the nose or throat. The present invention is also directed to methods of collecting a tissue sample using the devices, described herein.
TISSUE CONTACTING DEVICE FOR ORAL AND OTHER MEDICAL PROCEDURES
A system for laser-based medical use and laser-based oral surgery. The system includes an elongate handle having a proximal end and a distal end; a (e.g., disposable, selectively removable) functional element disposed at the distal end of the elongate handle; and an integral, soft coating material formed about, so as to cover, the functional element and the distal end of the elongate handle. In some implementations, the elongate handle includes a rigid (e.g., polycarbonate) portion and a soft (e.g., thermoplastic elastomer) portion for improving a user's grip of the elongate handle.
BIOPSY DEVICE
Apparatuses and methods for biopsying body vessels having small lumen, such as Fallopian tubes. In particular, described herein are apparatuses (e.g., systems and devices) and methods that include an outer member having a stepped distal end region, a flexible inner shaft, and a biopsy collector, and methods of using them.
3D printed nasal pharyngeal and oral swabs
The invention is generally a nasal pharyngeal and oral swab that may be mass-produced via three-dimensional (3D) printing. To achieve the right materials for 3D printing the swabs, exemplary embodiments employ a set of materials that result in a rigid structure that has bendable properties (at least in the neck or stem region of the swab), but more rigid and bridle properties at a breakpoint of the swab. In exemplary embodiments, this may be achieved by constructing the device of a first photosensitive material that is generally soft and bendable when cured, and a second photosensitive material that is generally rigid and brittle when cured, wherein the soft bendable material comprises of about 70% to 90% of the photosensitive composition used to 3D print the swab, and the rigid and brittle material comprises of about 30% to 10% of the photosensitive composition used to 3D print the swab.
