A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, a clamp actuator, and a blade cooling system. The end effector has a clamp arm and an ultrasonic blade coupled with an ultrasonic transducer. The clamp arm is configured to selectively move from a first actuator position toward a second actuator position thereby directing movement of the clamp arm from the open position toward the closed position, respectively. The cooling system is operable to deliver fluid coolant to the ultrasonic blade to thereby cool the ultrasonic blade while the clamp actuator remains in the first actuator position.

Surgical instrument

A tool comprises a distal portion and a proximal portion spaced apart by a shaft along a longitudinal axis. The distal portion includes a distal link and the proximal portion including a proximal link. The distal link and proximal link form a pair of links. The tool also comprises a set of tension load bearing members connecting the proximal link and the distal link and terminating at the links of the pair to transfer movement therebetween. The tool also comprises an articulation lock positioned between the distal portion and the proximal portion and configured to allow through passage of the set of tension load bearing members. The articulation lock is adjustable between an unlocked configuration in which the proximal and distal links are moveable and a locked configuration in which an effective length of the shaft is increased, creating a force to impede movement of the proximal and distal links.

Ultrasonic surgical instrument with pre-assembled acoustic assembly

The end effector includes an ultrasonic blade coupled to a distal end of the waveguide and having a primary blade treatment surface configured to treat tissue, and a clamp arm coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The shaft and the waveguide are selectively rotatable relative to one another about the shaft axis through a predefined range of angular motion between an assembly state and an operational state. In the assembly state, the clamp arm and the primary blade treatment surface are rotationally offset from one another. In the operational state, the clamp arm and the primary blade treatment surface are rotationally aligned.

MEDICAL DEVICE HANDLES WITH MULTIPLE DEGREES OF FREEDOM

A medical device may comprise a handle having at least one actuator, a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end connected to the handle, and a distal assembly connected to the distal end of the shaft, the distal assembly including an end effector. The handle may be configured so that a single hand of a user can operate the at least one actuator to (1) actuate the end effector, (2) rotate the end effector relative to the shaft, and (3) articulate a distal portion of the shaft.

ULTRASOUND TREATMENT TOOL

An ultrasound treatment tool includes a handle 6, a vibration transmitting member 13 that is formed in an elongated shape, the vibration transmitting member being configured to transmit an ultrasound vibration generated by a vibration generation source, a holder 112 configured to hold the vibration transmitting portion 13, and a rotary knob 9 configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis Ax1 of the vibration transmitting portion 13 in accordance with a user operation. The holder 112 and the rotary knob 9 are integrally coupled with each other, and are positioned respectively in a radial direction about the longitudinal axis Ax1 with respect to the handle 6. One of the holder 112 and the rotary knob 9 is positioned in a direction along the longitudinal axis Ax1 with respect to the handle 6.

INSTRUMENT END EFFECTOR WITH MULTIFUNCTION MEMBER AND RELATED DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS

An instrument may comprise a shaft and an end effector comprising a jaw mechanism coupled to the shaft. The jaw mechanism may comprise a first jaw member and a second jaw member movable relative to one another by pivoting about a pivot axis between an open configuration of the jaw mechanism and a closed configuration of the jaw mechanism. The second jaw member may be rotatable about a roll axis of the second jaw member between at least two orientations, the roll axis of the second jaw member being transverse to the pivot axis. In a first orientation of the at least two orientations, the jaw mechanism is configured to perform a first function. In a second orientation of the at least two orientations, the jaw mechanism is configured to perform a second function differing from the first function.

Surgical stapler with removable power pack

A surgical fastener applier including a housing containing a compartment, an elongated member extending distally from the housing, first and second jaws and a firing mechanism positioned within the housing. The firing mechanism is movable between a first position and a second position to effect firing of fasteners into the tissue clamped between the first and second jaws. A cover on the housing is openable to access the compartment. A power pack is removably loadable into the compartment, the power pack having a motor and an engagement member removably engageable with the firing mechanism within the compartment when the power pack is loaded into the compartment to effect movement of the firing mechanism from the first position to the second firing position.

Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses for and methods of separating tissue with opposing jaw members having distal ends that translate toward a surface of the tissue as the jaw members are rotated outwardly to maintain engagement with the tissue. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes jaw members rotatably coupled adjacent to their proximal ends. The jaw members define opposing outwardly-facing curved channels disposed between their proximal and distal ends that slidably engage a distal pin. A bracket defines a distal socket that receives the distal pin. As the jaw members are motivated in a distal direction relative to the bracket toward the distal pin, engagement of the distal pin with the outwardly-facing curved channels causes the jaw members to rotate to cause the distal ends of the jaw members move outwardly transversely to the distal direction while the distal ends translate in the distal direction.
