DEVICE, APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR MINIMISING THE DISPERSAL OF PATHOGENS INTO THE ENVIRONMENT DURING INSUFFLATING OF A CAVITY IN A SUBJECT
A collection device (1) for minimising dispersal of pathogens into the environment during insufflating of the peritoneal cavity (12) of a subject (3), and which are entrained in insufflating gases and other gases escaping through an incision (8) in the abdominal wall (9) of the subject (3), through which a trocar is entered into the peritoneal cavity (12) comprises a patch (5) supported on a support framework (30). The patch (5) terminates in an outer peripheral portion (20) with a pressure sensitive adhesive (21) coated thereon for sealably securing the outer peripheral portion (20) to the abdominal wall (9). A central access opening (24) formed in the patch (5) tightly and sealably engages the trocar (10). With the trocar (10) extending through the access opening (24) of the patch (5) and with the patch (5) bonded by the pressure sensitive adhesive (21) to the abdominal wall (9) of the subject, the patch (5) defines with the trocar (10) and the abdominal wall (9) of the subject an annular collection chamber (17) for collecting insufflating and other gases leaking through the opening (8) in the subject. An outlet port (25) extending from the patch (5) and communicating with the collection chamber (17) is connected through a filter (29) to a vacuum system (27) for drawing gases from the collection chamber (17) where they are filtered in the filter (29) for removing pathogens therefrom, and clean filtered gases are dispersed into the atmosphere from the vacuum system (27). Other access devices and apparatus for collecting and filtering insufflating gases and other gases leaking through an incision formed in the body of a subject or through other body orifices are also disclosed.
SINGLE PORT INSTRUMENT ACCESS DEVICE
Disclosed are medical devices for surgical procedures, especially procedures that involve the manipulation of surgical instrument end effectors close to the skin surface at an incision site. In accordance with some embodiments, an instalment access device is configured to couple to a wound retractor at a distal end of the device and to receive a multiple instrument entry guide in a port at the proximal end of the instrument access device, with an envelope (822) between the distal (804) and proximal (812) ends defining a sealed cavity for maintaining insufflation pressure. Various embodiments provide means for rotating an assistant port in the envelope about a port that receives the instrument entry guide without twisting the envelope. Also disclosed are various envelope shapes. Also disclosed is an instrument entry guide that aligns surgical instrument shafts.
NATURAL ORIFICE SURGERY SYSTEM
Embodiments of a surgical access port system that comprises a retractor that is adapted for being coupled to a cap and that is particularly useful in natural orifice surgery are described. The retractor comprises an outer ring, wherein the outer ring is configured to be disposed proximate the natural orifice of the patient and substantially surround the orifice; a tubular body; and various stabilizing mechanisms surrounding the tubular body, sized and configured to stabilize and retain the retractor within the orifice. The stabilizing embodiments described herein are useful in all natural orifices and are of particular use in the vaginal surgery.
TISSUE SURFACE PIERCING SYSTEM AND METHODS
A system, including a needle guide defining a path of travel of a needle inserted through the guide, and a tissue manipulator configured to approximate tissue and said needle guide and to position at least a portion of the tissue in the path of travel of the needle, and wherein the tissue manipulator and the needle guide are alignable such that the path of travel crosses a same surface of the tissue a plurality of times.
Device and methods for inspection and treatment of hemorrhoids
A device may include an elongated housing formed of an optically transparent material, the housing extending from a proximal end to a distal end and including a lateral wall extending from the proximal end to a distal tip of the housing, the housing defining a lumen extending into the housing from a proximal opening in the proximal end of the housing. The device also may include a first port extending through the lateral wall of the housing to open the lumen of the housing to an exterior of the housing, the first port being sized and shaped to receive therein a target portion of tissue to be inspected and/or treated.
Apparatus and method for effecting at least one anatomical structure
An apparatus for treating hemorrhoids including a first member having a proximal portion, a distal portion and a window formed therein to receive tissue. A third member is operably connected to the second member and movable between a first position and a second position, the third member having a clamping surface movable to the second position to provide a clamping force on tissue received through the window. Movement of the second member in a distal direction moves the third member in the distal direction toward the second position, the third member movable in a distal direction until such movement is limited due to contact and compression of tissue within the window, the second member continuing movement in the distal direction after movement of the third member in the distal direction has been limited.
Device for use in the treatment of hemorrhoids
A device for use in the treatment of hemorrhoids. The device includes an elongated tube-shaped element that includes a forward end and an aft end. The aft end provides access to the interior of the tube-shaped element. The tube-shaped element extends along a longitudinal axis L and includes at least one opening formed between the forward and aft end. The device includes an anal mucosa support device removably arranged within the tube shape element. The support device includes at least two cavities to receive anal mucosa. At least one needle guide structure is formed in the elongated tube-shaped element and the anal mucosa support device such that at least one needle is capable of being guided during movement within the tube-shaped element across the at least two cavities in the anal mucosa support device to a position where the needle extends across the opening in the tube-shaped element.
Introducer and circular stapler
An introducer for being fitted with a circular stapler, is a flexible plastic member in a whole shape of conical with an inner cavity; the introducer has a proximal end and a distal end, outer diameter of the introducer is gradually increased from the distal end to the proximal end and a maximum outer diameter of the proximal end is less than or equal to a maximum outer diameter of a staple cartridge assembly; when pulled by an external force, the plastic member may be unwound spirally and finally forms a strip body capable of being disengaged from the circular stapler. The introducer provided by the present disclosure has the advantages that: as the maximum outer diameter of the introducer is approximately equal to the maximum outer diameter of the staple cartridge assembly, the process of introducing can be achieved without bad influence resulting from increasing the outer diameter of the circular stapler. Moreover, the introducer can be pulled out from the circular stapler in one piece in the form of a strip, so that the operation is convenient and no additional step can be added for the subsequent operation of the circular stapler.
Tissue deflecting devices and related methods of use
A medical device may include a plurality of links reciprocally movable between a loose configuration having a first rigidity and a compact configuration having a second rigidity greater than the first rigidity, wherein application of a force to a distalmost link of the plurality of links when the plurality of links are in the loose configuration causes the plurality of links to change orientation relative to one another, and application of the force to the distalmost link when the plurality of links are in the compact configuration does not cause the plurality of links to change orientation relative to one another.
MEDICAL ACCESS DEVICE HAVING A GUARD ASSEMBLY
A medical device to protect a body opening, the medical device including a sleeve having a proximal end and a distal end a proximal ring attached to the proximal end of the sleeve, and a guard assembly located a distal end of the sleeve.
