The multi-core fiber includes a plurality of optical cores dedicated for shape sensing sensors, and a plurality of optical cores dedicated for force sensing sensors. A medical device flexing structure assembly can comprise a multi-core fiber comprising a plurality of cores, and a flexing structure comprising at least one slot. Each of the plurality of cores can comprise a fiber Bragg grating, and the flexing structure can be configured to bend in response to a force imparted on the flexing structure.
Multi-function surgical transection instrument
A surgical instrument includes a housing having a first handle and an elongated shaft extending therefrom. An end effector is disposed at a distal end of the elongated shaft and includes first and second jaw members, the first jaw member including a staple cartridge configured to house a series of staples therein. A second handle is operably coupled to the housing and is selectively moveable relative to the first handle to actuate the first and second jaw members between an open position and a closed position for grasping tissue. A first switch is activatable to supply energy to one of the jaw members. A stapler mode switch is actuatable between an unactuated position wherein movement of the second handle moves the jaws to the second position and an actuated position wherein movement of the second handle moves the jaws to the second position and drives the staples through tissue.
MEDICAL PUNCHING/CAUTERIZING DEVICE
A medical punching/cauterizing device includes a handle having a body, a cap detachably coupled to a front portion of the body, a connection terminal coupled to the body and electrically connected to a power supply means, a conductor provided in the front portion of the body and having one end electrically connected to the connection terminal, and a guide wire provided on a front portion of the handle and having one end electrically connected to the conductor.
METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING A JAW ASSEMBLY FOR AN ELECTROSURGICAL FORCEPS
A method of assembling a jaw member of an electrosurgical forceps includes aligning in vertical registration an electrically conductive seal plate, an insulative spacer and a jaw support. The method further includes stacking the seal plate atop the insulative spacer and the jaw support such that a flange depending from the seal plate seats within a corresponding cavity defined within a flange depending from the insulative spacer which, in turn, seats within a cavity defined within the jaw support. The method further includes mechanically securing the seal plate, insulative spacer and jaw support to one another and securing a jaw housing to surround the jaw support, the insulative spacer and the seal plate.
Interfaces for surgical systems
An interface for a surgical system includes an instrument drive unit and a surgical instrument. The instrument drive unit includes a connection hub and at least one drive shaft rotatably supported in the connection hub. The at least one drive shaft extends between a first end and a second end having an oblique end surface. The surgical instrument is releasably connectable to the instrument drive unit and includes a connecting member and at least one driven shaft rotatably supported in the connecting member. The at least one driven shaft extends between a first end and a second end. The second end has an oblique end surface corresponding to the oblique end surface of the at least one drive shaft. The oblique end surfaces are configured such that the connecting member is connectible with the connection hub via a first connection pathway and a second connection pathway.
RADIO FREQUENCY SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A radio frequency surgical instrument includes a tubular body; a metal wire having a tip end and a base end, and including a first portion exposed from and disposed outside a distal portion of the tubular body and a second portion disposed in the first lumen; and a fixture fixed to a tip end portion of the wire, being in contact with an inner wall of the first lumen, and having a tip end and a base end, wherein the fixture has a first segment including a portion decreased in outer diameter toward the tip end, and when the first segment is equally tripartitioned into a tip portion, a center portion, and a base portion, a base end of the tip portion in the first segment and a base end of the base portion in the first segment are different in radial sectional shape of the fixture.
Swappable High Mating Cycle Fiber Connection Interface
A medical system is disclosed that includes a medical device having an optical fiber, and an interchangeable connection component configured to provide a fiber optic connection between the medical device and capital equipment. The connection component is configured to facilitate cleaning and/or polishing of fiber optic interfaces include therewith. The connection component is also configured for replacement by a medical technician while the capital equipment is operational. The capital equipment may include one or more of an optical interrogator, a patch cable, a medical probe, an ultrasound machine, a display, a magnet sensor, or an electro-cardiogram (ECG) machine. The medical device may include an elongate member configured for insertion within the patient body, where the optical fiber core extends along a length of the elongate member.
EXCISION APPARATUS COMPRISING A HOUSING PROVIDED WITH A FIXATION PORTION
An excision apparatus for removing cellular tissue includes a housing provided with a fixation portion. The fixation portion is configured to be arranged on cellular tissue such that a closed space is formed by the cellular tissue and an inner surface of the fixation portion. The fixation portion is configured to fixedly retain the cellular tissue near the inner surface by removal of air from the closed space via an air evacuating means. The apparatus further includes a cutting element moveably arranged in the housing such that the cutting element is movable between a retracted position and an extended position with respect to the fixation portion. The cutting element includes an electrode arranged at a distal end of the cutting element and is configured for cutting a section of cellular tissue retained by the fixation portion when the cutting element is in the extended position.
ACTIVE CONTROL OF SURGICAL SMOKE EVACUATION
