Surgical devices and methods of operation thereof are provided herein. The surgical devices include interior walls defining a cavity that extends along a first axis and having an aperture at a first end of the surgical devices. The surgical devices include a backstop spaced apart from the aperture and having a surface opposing the aperture. The surgical devices include an arm that extends from the surgical device. The surgical devices are configured to receive a fiber waveguide into the cavity at a second end. The surgical devices of some embodiments include a surface for reflecting laser light from the fiber waveguide.

Medical laser fiber

One described aspect is an optical fiber comprising: a fiber core that extends along a fiber axis, is configured to transmit a laser energy along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; a first cladding that extends along the fiber axis, is adjacent to the fiber core, and terminates at a distal end; a coating that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end, wherein the coating is a gold coating; a second cladding that surrounds a portion of the gold coating along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; an outer jacket that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end; and a fiber tip. Associated laser systems are also disclosed.

The device comprises: —an outer tubular structure (21) having a closed terminal end; —an inner tubular structure (23), positioned in the outer tubular structure, and having a side wall with a terminal end and defining an inner volume, configured to receive a light guide (27); in which between the outer tubular structure (21) and the inner tubular structure (23) a first gap (25) for circulation of a coolant is formed; At least a portion of the external tubular structure (21) or the internal tubular structure (23) is diffusing to an electromagnetic radiation propagating in the light guide (27).

Tissue resection and treatment with shedding pulses

A fluid stream is directed toward tissue to generate a plurality of shedding clouds. The fluid stream can be scanned such that the plurality of shedding clouds arrive a different overlapping locations. Each of the plurality of shedding clouds can remove a portion of the tissue. In many embodiments, an apparatus to ablate tissue comprises a source of pressurized fluid, and a nozzle coupled to the source of pressurized fluid to release a fluid stream, in which the fluid stream generates a plurality of shedding clouds.

Surgical laser systems and laser lithotripsy techniques

A laser fiber for use in performing a medical laser treatment includes an optical fiber and a fiber tip. The optical fiber includes a terminating end surface at a distal end. The fiber tip is positioned at the distal end of the optical fiber and includes a transmissive portion and a spacer portion. Laser energy discharged from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber is transmitted through the transmissive portion. The spacer portion defines a distal terminating end of the fiber tip that is spaced a predetermined distance from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber. The predetermined distance is set for shock wave generation for calculus destruction at the distal terminating end of the fiber tip.

Optical measurement device, catheter kit, and optical measurement method

A light measurement device measures the intensity of laser light output from a catheter tip end portion of a catheter having a built-in optical fiber. The light measurement device includes a light receiving part which receives the laser light output from the catheter tip end portion and a mounting part which is disposed at a position facing the light receiving part. The mounting part defines a position of a tubular hoop, which accommodates the catheter, with respect to the light receiving part. In a state in which the position of the hoop is defined by the mounting part, the light measurement device obtains the intensity of the laser light by inputting the laser light to the light receiving part.

Catheter kit

A catheter kit includes a catheter having an optical fiber, and a catheter accommodating tool which accommodates the catheter. The catheter accommodating tool has a tubular hoop, and a protection cap which is provided to the hoop. The protection cap has a transmission window through which laser light L output from the catheter passes.
