GENERAL PURPOSE, WIDE ENERGY RANGE CALIBRATION SOURCE FOR MEDICAL EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY

For calibration in medical emission tomography, the dosimeter and/or detector is calibrated in the field, such as at the clinic or other patient scanning location. To allow for a fewer number of calibration sources used in calibrating and/or assist in calibration for multispectral emission tomography, a calibration source includes multiple isotopes and/or a proxy source or isotope is used instead of the same isotope used in factory calibration.

System and method for image localization of effecters during a medical procedure

A computer-assisted imaging and localization system assists the physician in positioning surgical effecters, such as implants, tools and instruments, within a surgical site in a patient's body. The system displays overlapping images—one image of the surgical site with the patient's anatomy and another image showing the surgical effecter(s). The overlapping image of the surgical effecter(s) is moved over the static image of the anatomy as the implant/instrument is moved. The movement of the surgical effecter(s) is determined in a three-dimensional coordinate system at a home base location in the patient's anatomy, which home base can be moved during the procedure without interrupting the displays of the overlapping images.

Simulated bone or tissue manipulation

The present invention is directed to a system and method for performing tissue, preferably bone tissue manipulation. The system and method may include implanting markers on opposite sides of a bone, fractured bone or tissue to facilitate bone or tissue manipulation, preferably in-situ closed fracture reduction. The markers are preferably configured to be detected by one or more devices, such as, for example, a detection device so that the detection device can determine the relative relationship of the markers. The markers may also be capable of transmitting and receiving signals. An image may be captured of the bone or tissue and the attached markers. From the captured image, the orientation of each marker relative to the bone fragment may be determined. Next, the captured image may be manipulated in a virtual or simulated environment until a desired restored orientation has been achieved. The orientation of the markers in the desired restored orientation may then be determined. The desired relationship between markers may then be programmed into, for example, the detection device. Next, actual physical reduction and/or manipulation of the bone may begin. During the manipulation procedure, the orientation of the markers may be continuously monitored and when the markers substantially align with the virtual or simulated orientation of the markers in the desired restored orientation, an indicator signal is transmitted.

An average offset image is acquired without irradiation of a radiation. A first image is acquired when a first time elapses from continuous irradiation with the radiation for imaging a subject on a pixel region. A second image is acquired when a second time longer than the first time elapses from an end of the continuous irradiation. The irradiation with the radiation for imaging the subject is performed on the pixel region after an elapse of the second time from the end of the continuous irradiation and a pixel signal from the pixel region is read out to acquire a radiographic image. An offset image representing an offset component and an afterimage representing an afterimage component according to a time of the continuous irradiation, the first time, the second time, and a defined time are generated based on the first image, the second image, and the average offset image.
