Implantable devices and methods to treat benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and associated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)

The invention is devices and methods to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and associated lower urinary tract symptoms infections (LUTS). The devices are intra-urethral implants placed in a patient in need thereof by minimally invasive procedures, preferably under local anesthesia in an office environment. The devices are sized and designed for atraumatic insertion and expansion within the urethra to engage and retract enlarged prostatic tissue proximate to the urethra that is leading to adverse symptoms associated with BPH. The methods include steps to deploy the implant devices of the invention using a delivery system of the invention and at target prostatic tissue that is visualized during the procedure and yields a reduction in the symptoms of BPH.

Urological implant having extraction handle and/or arched members

Embodiments of a Urological implant include an implant with an elongated body having a longitudinal axis. Optionally longitudinal ribs symmetrically oppose each other and are connected to elongated body. The longitudinal ribs are optionally elastically shiftable between a collapsed state and an expanded state relative to the spinal longitudinal axis, in order to retract or/and support periurethral tissue. Optionally the system includes an implant extraction handle. The extraction handle is optionally positioned proximally to the elongated body and connected to the longitudinal rib and subject to a pulling force to facilitate and/or force approximation of the longitudinal supports to the longitudinal axis. In some embodiments, an implant body includes longitudinally spaced arched members, interconnected via arch ends sequentially along a length of a first and second longitudinal rib. Optionally the arched members are elastically bendable to facilitate elastic contractibility of the implant body under a transverse compressive force.

PROSTATE INNER LUMEN EXPANSION

Various embodiments disclosed relate to a device for insertion into the urethra for dilation. The present disclosure includes methods and devices including a device for at least partial insertion into a prostate, the device including first and second elongated members each having at least one magnetizable or magnetic element. The first and second elongated members are magnetizable to repel each other to dilate a lumen therebetween.

System and method for detecting an endo-urethral device for an artificial sphincter that is implantable in an animal or human body

The invention relates to a detection system of an endo-urethral device for an artificial urinary sphincter implantable in the body of a patient, said sphincter comprising an occlusive cuff (2) adapted to compress the urethra, the bladder neck or the prostate of said patient, an activation device (5) of said cuff (2) and a control unit (6) adapted to control the activation device. Said system comprises at least one compression sensor (13) of the urethra and a posture sensor (9), and a processing unit (30) configured to determine: (i) if the compression parameter of the urethra exceeds a predetermined threshold during a predetermined period, (ii) if the patient is in a recumbent position. If the conditions (i) and (ii) are fulfilled, the processing unit sends to the activation device (5) an immediate reduction order of the compression exerted by the cuff (2).

One or more sensors are incorporated onto one or more of an implantable device and a surgical tool used for placement and/or adjustment of the implantable device. The implantable device includes an adjustable membrane element for controllable coaptation of a body lumen, such as coaptation of a urethra as treatment for urinary incontinence. In various embodiments, the one or more sensors can be configured to detect information indicative of at least one of a shape of the adjustable membrane element, a position of the adjustable membrane element relative to the body lumen, or a shape of the body lumen.

COIL CATHETER METHOD OF MANUFACTURE

A catheter device and manufacturing process for manufacturing the catheter device, wherein the catheter device has a halo-shaped coiled portion extending away from a perpendicular stem portion through a swan neck portion. Eyelets on the halo coil portion and swan neck portion facilitate flow out of the bladder through the catheter device vertical to the catheter, rather than perpendicularly as is the case with existing catheters. The catheter device is formed by using a straight catheter tube, heating and cooling it within a formed mold to have the halo coil and swan neck, such that it can be straightened using a pusher and stylet, inserted into the body while straightened, and thereafter return to its coiled shape when the stylet is removed.

A surgical medical device includes a rod portion and a support portion extending from the rod portion. The support portion has a first stretch segment, a second stretch segment, and a third stretch segment disposed between the first stretch segment and the second stretch segment. The surgical medical device has a control mechanism. The surgical medical device stretches or contracts the first stretch segment, the third stretch segment and the second stretch segment by the control mechanism.

Device for controllably deploying expandable implants

Aspects of the present invention relate to a delivery device for locating an expandable implant for treating BPH within the prostatic urethra of a patient. The delivery device comprises an inner tube and an outer sleeve movable relative to the inner tube between a stored position and a deployed position. The outer sleeve surrounds the inner tube to define an annulus therebetween and the expandable implant is retained within the annulus when the outer sleeve is in the stored position.
