Three-member prosthetic joint
09566157 · 2017-02-14 · ·

A prosthetic joint includes: (a) a first member comprising rigid material and having a perimeter flange defined by an undercut groove, the flange defining a wear-resistant first contact surface having a protruding rim; (b) a second member comprising rigid material and having a perimeter flange defined by an undercut groove, the flange defining a wear-resistant, second contact surface having a protruding rim; and (c) a third member comprising rigid material positioned between the first and second members, the third member defining opposed wear-resistant third and fourth contact surfaces; (d) wherein the first and second contact surfaces bear against the third and fourth contact surfaces, to transfer loads through the member, while allowing pivoting motion between the first and second members; (e) wherein the flanges can deform elastically such that the first and second contact surfaces conform to the third and fourth contact surfaces.

FEATURES FOR IMPLANTS WITH A REDUCED VOLUMETRIC DENSITY OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS

The invention disclosed herein includes implant features that can be used, in some embodiments, on devices with a volumetric density of less than about 100 percent and devices with a surface roughness of some value. The implant features include one or more protrusions mounted on the forward edge of an implant that can ease the distraction of tissue during implantation and reduce the occurrence of damage during a manufacturing process. In some embodiments, the protrusions have gaps in a non-axial direction with respect to the implant to allow axial compression with respect to the protrusions. In some embodiments, the protrusions have a circumferential gap between them and a body of a device to reduce any impact on the device's elastic modulus.

Apparatus and Methods for Small Joint and Bony Defect Replacement
20250312160 · 2025-10-09 ·

Apparatus and methods for joint and bony segment replacement may utilize additive manufacturing (e.g., 3D printing) of various anatomic constructs with PEEK/zeolite/ion (PZI) material. Heavy metal ion loading options may be utilized which may provide differing properties to different surfaces of the resultant apparatus. Moreover, using the PZI material, the apparatus being implanted in joint and bony segment replacement may favorably manipulate the biologic microenvironment in which it may be implanted. Further, through use of PZI material, current large joint replacement options also may be disrupted including, but not limited to, modifications of the joint replacement itself, and the augments and supporting joint reconstruction devices used in bone loss situations. Methods for joint and bony segment replacement may provide mixing two or more types of PZI material together through an additive manufacturing process; and introducing the mixture as part of an implantable apparatus.

MEDICAL IMPLANT INCLUDING POROUS CERAMIC INSERTS FOR THE PROMOTION OF OSSEOINTEGRATION AND FIXATION
20250359996 · 2025-11-27 ·

An implant for promoting osseointegration and a method for making the implant are disclosed. The implant includes a first component with a hole extending completely through the first component from a first opening to a second opening and a porous HA insert positioned in and completely filling the hole. The porous HA insert is configured to promote bone growth at the first opening and the second opening.

KNEE PROSTHESIS

An embodiment utilizes Ion Beam Enhanced Deposited (IBED) TiN in orthopedics to improve the wear and durability of Titanium articular surfaces and to reduce the leaching of metal ions associates with Cobalt Chrome implants.
