ELBOW JOINT PROSTHESES

A radial head assembly is provided that includes a stem, a collar, a locking ring, and an articular member. The stem has a convex articular head on one end thereof. The locking ring has a ring wall, which has a ring opening. The ring wall has an angular outer surface and a slot configured to permit the ring wall to radially expand. The angular outer surface engages an angular portion of an interior surface of the collar. The articular member and the locking ring define an articular space within the collar. The articular space is configured to receive the convex articular head.

A method of implanting a joint prosthesis assembly for joint arthroplasty using a coupling mechanism is disclosed. The method includes exposing a joint of a patient, resecting a portion of the joint, inserting a second prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly into a medullary canal, and inserting a first prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly from a lateral side of the joint. The joint prosthesis assembly includes a magnet. The magnet is configured to lock the first prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly to the second prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly. The first prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly includes a recess. The second prosthesis of the joint prosthesis assembly includes a protrusion. The recess is configured to house the protrusion. Alternatively, the first prosthesis and the second prosthesis may be assembled in a direct line using the magnet for secure coupling of the components.

Semi-Radial Head Prosthesis

The present invention discloses a semi-radial head prosthesis for matching to a non-fractured part of a bone. The prosthesis comprises a prosthesis head (3) matching to a radial head of the non-fractured part, the prosthesis head having a fractured surface, the prosthesis head (3) is jointed with the non-fractured part (2) to form an intact radial head. In the present invention, when the partial articular surface of the radial head is fractured, it is unnecessary to remove the entire radial head. Instead, the radial head of the fractured part is replaced with a prosthesis head and the radial head of the non-fractured part is retained. The two parties are combined to form an intact radial head. This minimizes iatrogenic injuries to the patients, and is good for the joint intactness and joint stability.

Elbow prosthesis

An elbow prosthesis includes a capitellar implant having an articulating head and a stem. The articulating head includes a first passage along a first axis, a second passage along a second axis, and a receiving groove. The stem includes a proximal end and a connecting end. The connecting end includes a curved body having a bore. The curved body selectively mates with the receiving groove such that the bore axially aligns with the first axis of the first passage in an assembled position for collectively receiving a securing member. The second axis is located between the first axis and the proximal end of the stem.

Elbow prosthesis

An elbow prosthesis constructed in accordance to one example of the present teachings can include a capitellar implant having an articulating head and a stem. The articulating head can have a first articulating surface positioned generally between a lateral side and a medial side. A passage can extend through the articulating head from the lateral side to the medial side. The articulating head can define a counterbore formed at the lateral side and that is concentric with the passage. According to other features, the elbow prosthesis can include a coronoid implant that has a body and a stem. The body can have a superior articulating surface that includes a central ridge and an anterior buttress. The central ridge can be configured to accommodate articulation with a trochlea in an implanted position.

Radial head implant

A radial head prosthesis for implantation in a distal radius. The implant includes a head portion and a stem portion. The stem portion has a cylindrical shaft and tapered tip. The head portion includes a recess for engagement with the stem portion. The head portion includes a first bearing surface for articulation with a humerus, and a second bearing surface for articulation with an ulna. The second bearing surface includes at least one concave and one convex portion immediately adjacent one another.

The ball is configured for coupling to at least one member of one of the following groups: (i) a humerus, and (ii) a radius, an ulna, or both of the radius and the ulna. The socket is configured for coupling to at least one member of the other of the following groups: (i) the humerus, and (ii) the radius, the ulna, or both of the radius and the ulna. The socket defines a cavity that is configured to receive at least a portion of the ball. The ball may be a spheroid, an ellipsoid, a sphere, or a portion of one of the foregoing with a convex surface. The socket may be configured with a concave surface that is spheroidal, ellipsoidal, or spherical and designed to mate with the ball. An elbow arthroplasty method using a ball and a socket.
