APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RAPIDLY COOLING OR HEATING THE BODY TEMPERATURE OF A PATIENT
An extracorporeal blood cooling or heating circuit includes an intravenous catheter for withdrawing a patient's blood coupled to a combined pump/heat exchanger device. One or more sensors are provided upstream and/or downstream of the pump/heat exchanger device for measuring pressure, temperature, fluid flow, blood oxygenation, and other parameters, A controller is operative!}′ coupled to the pump/heat exchanger device and the one or more sensors to control the speed of the pump inside the pump/heat exchanger device and regulate the blood temperature by controlling the operation of the heat exchanger. The combined pump/heat exchanger device includes a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a pump portion defining a blood circuit inside the housing, and a heat exchanger portion contained within the housing for selectively heating or cooling the blood.
CALCULATION OF THE PATIENT FLUID REMOVAL RATE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE VOLUME OF FLUID NOT REMOVED BECAUSE OF MACHINE DOWN TIMES
A patient fluid removal compensation volume may be determined to make up for the patient fluid removal that does not occur during machine down times, and the patient fluid removal rate may be increased until the compensating volume is satisfied.

One or more sensors are provided upstream and/or downstream of the pump/heat exchanger device for measuring pressure, temperature, fluid flow, blood oxygenation, and other parameters. A controller is operatively coupled to the pump/heat exchanger device and the one or more sensors to control the speed of the pump inside the pump/heat exchanger device and regulate the blood temperature by controlling the operation of the heat exchanger. The combined pump/heat exchanger device includes a housing having at least one inlet and at least one outlet, a pump portion defining a blood circuit inside the housing, and a heat exchanger portion contained within the housing for selectively heating or cooling the blood.
LOW VOLUME EXTRACORPOREAL PHOTOPHERESIS SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Systems and methods for performing low volume (e.g., 500 mL or less) extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) procedures are disclosed. Each of the different systems and methods eliminates the need for multiple kits and solutions and reduce some of the potential risks inherent in the use of such multiple kits and solutions.
BLOOD TREATMENT DEVICE WITH AUTOMATIC SUBSTITUTION VOLUME COMPENSATION
A blood treatment device includes an extracorporeal blood circuit, a dialyzer and a dialysis fluid circuit. The extracorporeal blood circuit and the dialysis fluid circuit are separated from each other by a membrane provided in the dialyzer, by which blood can be filtered. At least one substitution solution pump supplies a substitution solution to the extracorporeal blood circuit before and/or after the dialyzer. A control unit calculates a difference or a backlog between an ideal target volume and an actually controlled volume of the supplied substitution solution, and temporarily increases a controlled flow rate of the substitution solution pump under corresponding controlling thereof by a predetermined, fixed percentage which is less than or equal to 5%, until the difference or the backlog between the actually controlled volume and the ideal target volume no longer exists, i.e. the actually controlled volume corresponds to the ideal target volume.
Device for extracorporeal blood treatment comprising an improved arrangement of a blood treatment device
A device for extracorporeal blood treatment, in particular a dialysis device, including an internal fluidic system for a treatment liquid, in particular for a dialysis liquid, the internal fluidic system having at least two liquid connectors for connecting a substantially cylindrical filter element, in particular a dialyzer, to the internal fluidic system for passing a treatment liquid through the filter element, and including a mounting for exchangeably holding the filter element in such a way that the filter element can be connected to the liquid connectors of the internal fluidic system and to an extracorporeal blood line in an intended manner, wherein the mounting for holding the filter element is designed in such a way that a cylinder longitudinal axis of the filter element is substantially horizontally aligned.
Priming System and Method for Dialysis Systems
The application is directed to an extracorporeal blood processing system capable of using dialysate to prime the system. A plastic molded compact manifold supports molded blood and dialysate fluidic pathways along with relevant sensors, valves and pumps. The compact manifold is also disposable in one embodiment and can be detachably installed in the dialysis machine. A two-way valve in the manifold is used to direct the dialysate flow through the blood circuit to prime the circuit for use in treatment.
Medical Fluid Cassettes and Related Systems
Systems relate to a reusable console system that can be used with a plurality of different types of disposable cassettes. The cassettes may be structured for different therapies, different fluid volumes, among others, or a combination thereof. The disposable cassette may include a plurality of fluid circuits. Each circuit may include a pump chamber disposed along the path. The disposable cassette and the panel of a console may be configured to mate so that each of the one or more actuators of the console align with a pump chamber of the disposable cassette. The console may be configured to control a flow of the fluid in the path in the cassette when the disposable cassette is mated on the panel. Because the console can be mated with different cassettes, the system can efficiently and accurately deliver different medical fluid therapies and/or different patient populations (e.g., pediatric and adult).

Method for determining at least one parameter of an extracorporeal blood circuit as well as apparatuses
A method for determining at least one parameter of an extracorporeal blood circuit includes the steps of filling an extracorporeal blood circuit, e.g., encompassing a medical functional device, a treatment device and/or a blood tube set, by introducing a fluid, and detecting a volume of the introduced fluid which is required for filling the extracorporeal blood circuit by a detection device. A control device, a treatment apparatus, a computer readable storage medium, a computer program product as well as a computer program are also described.
