Device and implantation system for electrical stimulation of biological systems
The present specification discloses devices and methodologies for the treatment of GERD. Individuals with GERD may be treated by implanting a stimulation device within the patient's lower esophageal sphincter and applying electrical stimulation to the patient's lower esophageal sphincter, in accordance with certain predefined protocols. The presently disclosed devices have a simplified design because they do not require sensing systems capable of sensing when a person is engaged in a wet swallow, have improved energy storage requirements, enable improved LES function while concurrently delivering additional health benefits, and enable improved LES function post stimulation termination.
Systems and methods for active charge-balancing for high-frequency neural stimulation
Systems and methods for active charge-balancing for high frequency neural stimulation are disclosed. One illustrative method described herein includes: applying, through a pair of electrodes electrically coupled to a bundle of nerve fibers during a stimulation phase of a neural stimulation procedure, a first current to the bundle of nerve fibers; applying, through the pair of electrodes during a recovery phase of the neural stimulation procedure, a second current to the bundle of nerve fibers, the first current and the second current having opposite polarities; determining sampled voltages between the pair of electrodes during the stimulation phase, during the recovery phase, or between the stimulation phase and the recovery phase; determining a charge buildup in the bundle of nerve fibers based on the sampled voltages; applying, through the pair of electrodes during the stimulation phase or during the recovery phase, a delta current to the bundle of nerves based on the sampled voltages to minimize the charge build up.
Interferential stimulation method and system for neuromodulation
An example of a system for delivering neurostimulation energy may include a programming control circuit and a user interface. The programming control circuit may be configured to generate stimulation parameters according to a neurostimulation program including a pattern of interferential stimulation configured to effect asynchronous and/or non-regular activation of nerve fibers by simultaneously delivering a first stimulation current having a first waveform with a first frequency using a first electrode configuration and a second stimulation current having a second waveform with a second frequency using a second electrode configuration. The user interface may be configured to determine the neurostimulation program and to provide the pattern of interferential stimulation with modulation of the first waveform, the second waveform, the first electrode configuration, and/or the second electrode configuration to result in a time-varying beat frequency capable of effecting the asynchronous and/or non-regular activation of the nerve fibers.
Method for Selective Modulation
Provided herein is a solution to the problem of stimulation of a target pudendal nerve such that the stimulation applied by the electrode at that position selectively modulates the external urtheral sphincter (EUS), or selectively modulates the external anal sphincter (EAS).
SPINAL CORD STIMULATION TO TREAT PAIN
A system and method for treating pain without paresthesia by spinal cord stimulation.
Systems, devices, components and methods for the delivery of electrical stimulation to cranial nerves to treat mood or mood affective disorders
Disclosed are various examples and embodiments of systems, devices, components and methods configured to treat mood disorders in a patient using a compact implantable neurostimulator and corresponding lead(s) that are shaped, sized and configured to be implanted beneath a patient's skin in the head or neck, and to stimulate one or more target cranial nerves. The one or more medical electrical leads comprising electrode(s) are positioned adjacent to, in contact with, or in operative positional relationship to, the one or more target cranial nerves of the patient. In some embodiments, electrical stimulation is provided to the one or more target cranial nerve(s) of the patient for periods of time ranging between 30 and 60 minutes, once or twice per day. In some embodiments, power is provided to the implantable neurostimulator transcutaneously by inductive, wireless, RF, acoustic, microwave, or other suitable non-invasive means.
Methods and System for Modulating Glycaemia
Methods and systems are disclosed for modulating glycaemia in a patient in which an activating stimulation signal is applied at an activating location at the vagus nerve, the activating stimulation signal configured to evoke a neural response in the vagus nerve; and a blocking stimulation signal is applied at a blocking location at the vagus nerve, the blocking stimulation signal configured to inhibit transmission of the evoked neural response along the vagus nerve past the blocking location; to produce unidirectional vagal nerve stimulation, the unidirectional vagal nerve stimulation being effective to modulate glycaemia in the patient.
HIGH-FREQUENCY LOW DUTY CYCLE PATTERNS FOR NERUAL REGULATION
A method of downregulating and/or upregulating neural activity by applying a high frequency alternating current electrical signal to a nerve in a subject is disclosed. The signal comprises more than one microsecond cycle comprising one or more periods, each period comprising a charge recharge phase, and optionally, a pulse delay, each period having a frequency of at least 1000 Hz; and a microsecond inactive phase. In embodiments, an electrical signal treatment comprises more than one microsecond cycle to form a millisecond cycle, each millisecond cycle separated by a millisecond inactive phase during an on time. In embodiments, the electrical signal patterns can differ in amplitude.
Method for generating stimulation parameters, electrical stimulation control apparatus and electrical stimulation system
A method for generating stimulation parameters, an electrical stimulation control apparatus and an electrical stimulation system are provided. After receiving a brainwave signal, the brainwave signal is decomposed to obtain a first sub-signal and a second sub-signal. Then, the first sub-signal is analyzed to obtain an intrinsic frequency series, and the second sub-signal is converted to a Boolean signal. Subsequently, the intrinsic frequency series and the Boolean signal, which serve as a set of stimulation parameters, are outputted to the stimulator, enabling the stimulator to generate a stimulus signal.
Non-Invasive Peripheral Nerve Stimulation for The Enhancement of Behavioral Therapy
Systems and methods for improving behavioral therapies encompassing therapies wherein a perceptual stimulus is administered to a subject or a motor behavior is performed by the subject. Such administration of perceptual stimuli or motor performance is paired with the delivery of vagus nerve stimulation to the subject. The vagus nerve stimulation is timed with the sensory stimulus administration or motor performance in a temporal alignment that maximizes neuroplasticity and performance. Systems for performance of the method and associated software are also disclosed
