Stick fit fastener recess system
Various embodiments described herein provide a fastener system having straight walled driving surfaces that provides a reliable stick fit feature, while also improving stability of engagement between the system components. A feature of the new system is to allow stick fit engagement of existing standard straight walled drivers in the new system.
Self-clearing self-cutting implant
The invention relates to methods of stabilizing bone implants, comprising inserting a self tapping implant having at least two helical grooves running in opposite directions around the implant.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO PERFORM DISSIMILAR OPERATIONS IN A SINGLE MACHINE
A spatially coherent machine for manufacturing comprises, in one example, a workpiece holder configured to secure a workpiece, a toolholder with at least one axis of motion control configured to perform a subtractive machining operation on the workpiece using a machining tool, a heating element configured to perform a heating operation on the workpiece, and a forming element configured to perform a forming operation in which force is applied to the workpiece in an amount that causes plastic deformation of the workpiece material. The workpiece holder secures the workpiece during the heating, forming, and subtractive operations such that the forming and subtractive operations are performed in a spatially coherent manner.
Method for manufacturing a profiled rod
Method for manufacturing a profiled rod from a rod-shaped metal blank including a first deformation step, in which the blank is embedded in a first die arrangement, and subsequently, the blank is axially compressed so as to radially displace blank material within the first die arrangement to form a first surface protrusion structure on the blank, and following the first deformation step, a second deformation step, in which the blank is embedded in a second die arrangement, and subsequently, the blank is axially compressed so as to radially displace blank material within the second die arrangement to form a second surface protrusion structure on the blank, wherein at least a section of the second surface protrusion structure is closer to the first end than the first surface protrusion structure is.
HOLLOW METAL SCREW AND METHOD OF MAKING
A hollow screw and related process of making is provided, wherein the hollow screw is formed from a generally circular corrosion resistant stainless steel disk cut from flat roll stock. The hollow screw includes a head and an elongated and hollow shaft having a wall thickness between about 0.2 to about 0.7 millimeters extending therefrom and defining a shank portion and a threaded portion having a plurality of threads thereon with a rotational drive mechanism configured to facilitate tightening via the threads. The process involves annealing to soften the stamped hollow screw, followed by thread rolling, and then age hardening the hollow screw. As such, the resultant hollow screw is relatively lightweight, about 50% the mass of a solid core screw made from the same material, with a sufficient thread strength to meet most aerospace applications and contributes to important aircraft fuel economy.

Zn-Ni AS A COATING LAYER ON SELF-DRILLING SCREWS OF AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL
A self-drilling screw (10) having a head (20), a shaft (30) at least partially wearing a thread (35) and a drill point (40). The base material of the screw (10) including the drill point (40) is integrally manufactured from an austenitic 300 series steel with a surface hardness (uncoated) of 400-600 HV 0.3. The surface of the screw has a top coating of Zn—Ni with a Ni-content between 12-15% deposited on the austenitic base material. This self-drilling screw (10) is manufactured from a blank of raw austenite 300 series steel which is initially squeezed by cold forming to reduce its diameter in a first operation and, in following cold forming operations the head, the drill point and a thread are formed.
COLD FORMED, DUAL SEAL ANCHOR AND METHOD OF MAKING
A cold formed anchor for use in an insulated cavity wall includes a unitary body formed with a driver portion and having large and small diameter portions. The driver portion may be formed with structure for connecting a veneer tie to the anchor. A method of making the cold formed anchor includes cold forming a driver portion and a reduced diameter portion from a blank.
Method and means of forming threaded ties and rods
Method and means of manufacturing ties, fasteners and rods (15) having a plurality of longitudinal threads by forcing a coil of roll-profiled feed-wire made of steel (11) through a twisting-die made of plastic (1). Also described is: a twisting-die made of plastic (1) that is suitable for twisting profiled feed-wire (11) made of steel; a method of forming a plastic twisting die (1) using an driven tap (31) in the form of a twisted rod (15); and a helically-shaped member (15) having lead measurements (X) along the length of the helical thread that vary less than pitch measurements (Y) along the lengths of the helical threads.
Wood screw and method for producing a wood screw
The invention relates to a wood screw having a screw head having a drive configuration, a screw shank which emanates from the screw head and which at least in portions is provided with a thread, and a drilling tip which adjoins the thread, wherein the drilling tip is configured without a thread, wherein the drilling tip has two longitudinal cutters which continue up to a terminal point of the drilling tip and which run so as to be curved in relation to a central longitudinal axis of the screw, and wherein a circumference of the drilling tip between the two longitudinal cutters does not have any further cutters.
