Additively manufacturing of amorphous structures
An additive manufacturing system configured to additively build an article can include an energy applicator, a build platform, and a powder nozzle configured to eject powder toward the build platform to be acted on by the energy applicator. The system can include a control module configured to control the energy applicator to create an amorphous structure forming at least a portion of the article.
PROCESS FOR IMPROVING THE REPEATABILITY OF A WELD
A process is provided for welding an assembly of a first tubular component and a second tubular component, the first and second tubular components having first and second cylindrical portions, respectively. The process uses a pressing jig, a pressing tool, a welding jig and a welding head. The process includes: positioning the first tubular component with respect to the pressing jig; clamping the first tubular component against the pressing jig; freely fitting the second cylindrical portion into the first cylindrical portion, the two cylindrical portions being substantially coaxial; placing the second component with respect to the first cylindrical portion and the pressing jig; tightening the second tubular component against the pressing jig; aligning the two fitted cylindrical portions with the pressing tool; and pressing by plastic deformation the first and second cylindrical portions. The first and second pressed tubular components form a rigid assembly, with the two fitted and pressed cylindrical portions defining a fitting and a joint. Additional steps include: positioning the rigid assembly with respect to the welding jig; clamping the rigid assembly against the welding jig; and welding by positioning and orienting the welding head repeatably with respect to the fitting and the joint, where the rigid assembly is positioned with respect to the welding jig along one or more surfaces belonging exclusively to the first component in the pressed state.
Material deposition for fluid injectors
A method of making a fluid injector for a gas turbine engine includes depositing material onto a piece of tube stock. The method includes machining the deposited material into a fluid injector component. Depositing can include laser cladding the material onto the piece of tube stock. The method can include placing or flowing braze into a braze joint location between the deposited material and another fluid injector component and forming the braze into a braze joint in the braze joint location.
INCREMENTAL SHEET FORMING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FORMING STRUCTURES HAVING STEEP WALLS
A system and method for forming a structure with steep walls (walls having an angle greater than 60° with respect to a level plane) through one or more incremental sheet forming operations is provided. The method includes a workpiece with an inner region and an outer region that are separated by a boundary region. The boundary region includes a plurality of openings and a plurality of connecting elements. The openings are cut into the workpiece using a boundary region cutting tool. A forming tool is configured to operate on the inner region after the boundary region cutting operation has been completed. At least one control unit is in communication with the forming tool. The at least one control unit operates the forming tool to form the structure from the inner region.
Composite member and method for manufacturing composite member
A composite member is manufactured by a manufacturing method including adding, on a surface of a base member composed of a first material, a second material different from the first material, using additive manufacturing employing directed energy deposition as an additive manufacturing process. The manufacturing method is performed by placing the base member in a machining area of a machine tool configured to perform subtractive machining. Accordingly, a composite member can be obtained that is manufactured through additive manufacturing and that is in a state in which the composite member can be promptly machined.
Method to attach copper alloy valve inserts to aluminum cylinder head
A system to attach valve seat inserts to an aluminum cylinder head of an automobile vehicle includes a cylinder head of an automobile vehicle engine having a valve seat portion. A valve seat insert is positioned in the valve seat portion of the cylinder head. A fusion bond is created between the valve seat insert and the valve seat portion by laser welding thereby fusing the valve seat insert to the valve seat portion.
System and method for coating workpieces
The invention relates to a system and to a method for coating workpieces using a coating device, which is designed to apply a metal coating to a surface of the workpiece. According to the invention, it is provided that a plurality of coating devices, which are designed as identical coating modules, are provided and are arranged in a module group, that an input measuring station is assigned to the module group, by means of which station a surface of the face of the workpiece to be coated can be detected, that a conveying apparatus is provided, by means of which a workpiece can be supplied to one of the coating modules from the input measuring station, and that an output measuring station is assigned to the module group, by means of which station a surface of the coated face of the workpiece can be detected.
MACHINE ARRANGEMENT AND MECHANICAL METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SHEET METAL
A machine arrangement for manufacturing sheet metal includes a workpiece carrier configured to store a sheet metal workpiece and/or a sheet metal manufacturing product, and three spatially separate functional units. The functional units include two manufacturing units and a secondary functional unit. Each manufacturing unit includes a manufacturing apparatus that has a work area. The workpiece carrier is arrangeable in the work area in a manufacturing position. The secondary functional unit has a functional area. The workpiece carrier is arrangeable in the functional area in a functional position. The machine arrangement further includes a transporting unit movable in a driven manner together with the workpiece carrier between the functional units, thereby enabling the workpiece carrier to be transferred between the functional units. The workpiece carrier is a universal workpiece carrier arrangeable at the two manufacturing units in the manufacturing position and at the secondary functional unit in the functional position.
ELECTRODE MANUFACTURING METHOD USING LASER ETCHING AND ELECTRODE MANUFACTURING EQUIPMENT PERFORMING SAME
Discussed is an electrode manufacturing method, in which laser ablation is performed prior to cutting an electrode sheet so that a processing speed of cutting the electrode sheet by using laser is increased, and an electrode forming device for performing same.
METHOD OF SEPARATING WAFER
A method of separating a wafer into at least two thinner wafers includes a pressing member placing step of placing a pressing member that is transmissive of a wavelength of a laser beam on a first surface of the wafer such that the pressing member is pressed against the first surface of the wafer, a separation initiating point forming step of forming a separation initiating point in the wafer by applying the laser beam whose wavelength is transmittable through the wafer to the wafer while positioning a focused spot of the laser beam within the wafer and moving the focused spot and the wafer relatively to each other along a first direction, and an indexing feed step of moving the focused spot and the wafer relatively to each other along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.
